Senior Committee Minutes 2011 06-27-11 United City of Yorkville Senior Ad Hoc Committee Meeting June 27, 2011 Beecher Community Center Present: Cecelia Sanders, Robert Skidmore, Patty Strahan, Bette Schoenholtz, Rita Murphy Bette Schoenholtz opened the meeting. Tim Evans is not able to attend today. There is a question as to whether this is still an on-going, valid committee. Approval of Minutes – There were 4 members present and it is believed this constitutes a quorum. Bob Skidmore made a motion to approve the April meeting minutes. Rita Murphy seconded. Approved. Old Business 1.The movie Gran Torino only had 6 attendees. Taking Chance will be the meeting next month and this cost will be covered by the Knights of Columbus. Bette Schoenholtz asked Patty Strahan to do a movie survey. Rita Murphy stated there are too many other activities going on during the summer. Patty Strahan stated that there are a lot of scheduled activities at Beecher. There was a question of possibly doing some travelogues. Bob mentioned Deacon Dale Metcalfe has one of the trips they took. Cele has one on Nepal. There are also DVDs on various areas. 2. The Walking Club – Patty is waiting for the Rec Center to contact her about using that facility. This month they went to Geneva to the stores on Third St. Bob mentioned he could check on whether the K of C could sponsor a month or something at the Rec Center. Patty will check to see what the cost might be. 4. St. Patrick’s Youth group Picnic was a huge success. Several of the seniors sent personal thank yous. The teens were very polite and everything was lovely. New Business th The Thanksgiving Dinner will be Friday, November 18. Additional Business th The state fiscal year ends June 30. Aging services got what they anticipated and did better than other groups. Human Resources took huge cuts. They wanted to cut all non-Medicaid recipients from services, but that did not go through. They did raise the eligibility for the Circuit Breaker program and Senior Services will need to help people find alternatives for medical costs. The federal budget had significant cuts in funds to train seniors for jobs. They are also cutting the RSVP 20% in the 2011. The 2012 budget is being worked on. If AAoA gets less for activities there may need to be program cuts. Sandy Pastore from the Oswego Senior Center is applying for a grant to train seniors. Bette met with the 708 Board. Bob Skidmore made a motion to adjourn. Rita Murphy seconded. Accepted. Next meeting – Monday, July 25th, 8:30 a.m. at the Beecher Center
