September 26, 2011
7:00 P.M. -

Mission Statement: To advise the City Council of the United City of Yorkville, Illinois on ways to enhance the
community environment and ways to equip and encourage citizens and businesses to participate in sustainable
ecological practices.
Call to Order:
Marta Keane called the meeting to order at 7:48.
Welcome Members and Guests:
Attendance: Marta Keane, Chairperson; Cheryl Lee, Becca Cherwin,
Richard Scheffrahn, Alderman Diane Teeling, Norm Johnson. No liaison from the City attended. Anne
Englehardt arrived at the end of the meeting.
Approval of Minutes:
July Minutes were approved unanimously
New Business:
The status of the Green Committee was discussed. Keane reported that City Manager, Bart
Olson, suggested the Committee blend into the Chamber Green Committee. He does not believe the Mayor
will fill the vacant positions. The City Manager sent an email to Cheryl Lee stating that the Rec Center will
not be available for the Environmental Fair in March. Keane stated that the Committee needs to fulfill its
commitment to the Share & Care Recycling Event but the meeting following the event may be the last since
this committee was created by Mayor Burd and has not been endorsed or supported by Mayor Golinski.
Old Business:
1Update on Rainbarrel Project. Norm Johnson reported that 30 rainbarrels were purchased, 25 were
decorated, 22 were successfully auctioned, 2 plain ones were sold, 2 were striped and sold and 2
are unaccounted for – last seen at the Public Works garage. The Chamber had reimbursed the City
over $400 when the sponsors funds were received that were to returned to the Green Committee’s
line item. The Green Committee should have funds for promoting the Share & Care Recycling
Event but Marta Keane reported she has not yet received a financial report on the Committee
funds.
2Update on Bicycle Path Funding Efforts. Diane Teeling stated that everything for the Rt. 47 bike
path was moving forward under the IDOT widening project. However, an upcoming Rt. 71
widening project had only earned County and Oswego approval for an adjoining bike path,
Yorkville had said they wouldn’t fund it.
Committee Reports:
1.Environmental Fair Committee - March 2012 Plans
Lee reported that a new location is being researched. The City has indicated the Beecher Center
may be an option. Scheffrahn spoke to a County Board member about Hoover and the Fairgrounds
were also under consideration.

2.Share & Care Recycling Event – Oct 22 Planning Update
The date still needs changed on the City website. Flyers were created by Keane to be printed by the
City but haven’t been picked up yet. Inserts for banks were also to be created by Keane and these
still need to be completed and printed by the City. Engelhardt is to pick these items up and Becca
volunteered to help Engelhardt with putting up flyers in windows and delivering inserts to banks.
Engelhardt has made arrangements with the schools and will be delivering these.
Keane asked for suggestions on promotion. Keane will submit letters to the editor and press
releases to the Record about the event. Becca wants promotion done at the Biz Boo, which is going
on the morning of the event in the downtown. Keane suggested flyers on windshields at the Jewel
the weekend before, but other members felt this would become litter and reflect poorly on the
Committee.
Keane will contact Cardinal Recycling to see if they will accept scrap and pay the Chamber for
additional funds towards the Environmental Fair.
Teeling agreed to try to get the city website updated and get the banners for the Committee.
Adjournment:
Keane adjourned the meeting at 8:48 p.m. Englehardt arrived with volunteer duty
information related to the Share & Care Recycling Day.
