HRC Minutes 2006 10-18-06 United City of Yorkville Human Resources Commission Meeting Minutes of October 18, 2006 Location: Police Department Conference Room Called to Order: Diana called the meeting to order at 6:02pm. Quorum established. Members present were: Ex-officio Members Jeff Grezlik Sgt, Greg Siebenaller Cecelia Sanders Ald. Rose Spears Diana Lento-Reidy Mayor Art Prochaska Dana Jones Glory Spies Members absent were: Tom Zerante Lorene Frieders Citizen—Guests: Alderman Jim Bock Minutes were reviewed. Madonna motioned to approve, Diana seconded. APPROVED. Committee Reports: Mayors Report: The Mayor has received a couple oral suggestions regarding the proposed 9/11 honorary monument. He would like to receive the ideas written rather than oral. Moreover, Mark O'malley proposed one suggestion to obtain a piece of the debris from the World Trade Center wreckage and display it. A second idea was to construct a labyrinth landscape. A landscaper who does labyrinths is willing to cooperate with the city if decided on. Glory added that the Junior Women's Club would like to participate in the project as well, City Liaison's: None City Council Report: Alderman Jim Bock is to replace Rose Spears as the City Council Liaison. The HRC welcomed Jim Bock and each member introduced themselves to Bock. We then proceeded to brief him about the duties of the HRC. Recreation Department Report: None Library Board Report: None School Report: The City is working close with Superintendent Dr. Engler and Art Zeppler to get new area schools to be built by the residential developers. Moser Enterprises, INC,has successfully built the Grande Reserve Elementary School within its development to account for the rising population. New Business: Volunteer Opportunities Brochure—Glory Spies has been receiving many calls recently for volunteer,opportunities with the City of Yorkville. Glory now asks for the HRC to put together a brochure for new and current residents who want to be involved in our community. Some opportunities are posted on Yorkville's website but many more opportunities are still out there and unknown to the general public. Cecelia researched and pointed out that the Dupage County website offers an excellent list of opportunities in their area. Glory also suggested to form a core group to help generally in the community. HR.0 has accepted the task in creating a brochure and will now begin the process of searching for all organizations that need volunteer help. We also need recipients for the volunteers who may serve on the core group. Lastly, we must also get the word out on our Volunteer of The Year Award nomination, Page 2 HRC minutes— October 2006 Old Business: Area-Business Brochures: None were submitted. Historic Street Name nominations: Marvin Lawyer submitted literature regarding "James Armour Lawyer," To be reviewed by the HRC, Historic Street Name Brochure: Rose suggested an event to be publicized to promote the Historic Street Naming Program. For example, A name dropping event at a place like the Beecher Center to get the community involved and informed with the HRC program. Diana moved to adjourn the meeting, Cecelia seconded.
