Mayor Bob Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the Council in the
Pledge of Allegiance.

A motion was made by Alderman Prochaska and seconded by Alderman Lynch to accept
the minutes of the regular meeting of the City Council of December 18, 1997 as presented.

BILLS FOR APPROVAL
A motion was made by Alderman Prochaska and seconded by Alderman Sowinski to
accept the bills dated January 8, 1998 in the amount of$68,370.18 (vendor), $63,443.89
(payroll), for a total of$131,814.07. Clerk Simmons called the roll.

ATTORNEY'S REPORT

Attorney Kramer announced that former Alderman Dan Patrick passed away.
MAYOR'S REPORT
Mayor Johnson advised and recognized that Judy Bell, who has been the cities office
secretary and deputy clerk, is retiring after 10 years of service. Mayor Johnson invited
everyone to an open house at the City Office on Friday, January 9, 1998 from 9:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. to wish Judy well. He stated that refreshments will be served. He stated that
on January 17, 1998 there will be a retirement party for Judy where she will be formally
recognized.

CITY TREASURER'S REPORT

CITY ADMINISTRATOR 'S REPORT
City Administrator Jim Nanninga stated that the block wall at the rivefront has been started.
He stated that they have created the spot for the stairs. He stated that they are up to 104
blocks. He stated that Prairie Material has donated the blocks.
Alderman Prochaska stated that in the Kendall County Record tonight there was a letter
questioning the acceptance of applications for replacement of retiring Secretary/Deputy
Clerk Judy Bell and why it had not been posted publically. He stated that the job was
being posted internally first as per the City Manual and if there are no takers internally it
will be posted publically. He stated that no outside applications are being considered for
the position at this time. He stated that the only people initially being considered at this
time will be current employees as per the City Manual.
SCHOOL COMMUNITY REPORT
Alderman Spang stated that the next regular meeting of the Board of Education of Yorkville
Community School District#115 will be January 12, 1998 at 7:30 p.m. in the District Office.
Alderman Spang stated the Strategic Plan Update work session that had been scheduled
for January 10, 1998 is going to take place on January 17, 1998 at the District Office from
9:00 a.m. til noon and it will be a board work session. He stated that the following meeting
for the Board of Education will be January 26, 1998 at 7:30 p.m.

OLD BUSINESS
Alderman Lynch stated the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce will be having their annual
dinner meeting on January 13, 1998 at the Fox River Lanes bowling alley at 6:15 p.m. He
stated Mayor Johnson, City Administrator Jim Nanninga, Police Chief Tony Graff and the
Alderman are personally invited at the Chambers expense. He stated that if anyone wants
to bring their wives the cost would be $15.00 per person.
NEW BUSINESS
Alderman Prochaska stated that there will be a Hometown Days Committee meeting for
1998 on Saturday, January 10, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. at the Yorkville National Bank.

A motion was made by Alderman Prochaska and seconded by Alderman Kot to go into
Executive Session at 7:15 p.m. for the purpose of Collective Bargaining - F.O.P. The
executive session will include Police Chief Tony Graff, City Administrator Jim Nanninga,
City Treasurer Richard Scheffrahn, City Attorney Dan Kramer and Labor Attorney Robert
Smith. Clerk Simmons called the roll.
