Haunted Jail Additional Business: Adjournment: UNITED CITY OF YORKVILLE CULTURAL COMMISSION Wednesday,August 17, 2011, 5:30 pm City Conference Room 800 Game Farm Road,Yorkville,IL 60560 In Attendance: Committee Members Harold Oliver, HRM Howard Manthei, City Rick Falato,Yorkville Big Band Stephanie Todd, Kendall County Historical Preservation Other Guests: None. The meeting was called to order at 5:57 pm Roll Call Roll Call was taken Citizens Comments: None. Previous Minutes: Motion to approve minutes by Stephanie Todd and seconded by Howard Manthei. Minutes were approved. Committee Reports: 1) Yorkville Has Talent- Mr. Oliver said he has talked to Robyn Sutcliff and she is working hard with her ice cream business and it will slow down a bit in the winter. She stated that she still wants to be involved. 2) Historic Walking Tour— Eric Lechowicz is not in attendance to discuss. 3) Historic Jail - Howard Manthei stated that inside the parlor is ready to paint. He said that he has to put one more coat of plaster on the walls. He said that the four windows are ready for the new windows. He said that those should be done this next week. He said that he bought a ladder and he said that he hasn't spent more than around$400.00. He said that he has not heard about any grants or anything. He said that once the parlor is finished in the next couple days it will be ready for a painting party. Stephanie Todd stated that she knows a painter that will do work for a good price. Stephanie Todd said that she will get an e-mail out for a painting party. Howard said that he has a DVD that shows what work has been done. Rick Falato stated that he could get that on local cable access for people to see for more publicity. Howard brought in pictures from the jail downstate that is a"twin" of our jail. The committee looked at all the pictures to see how they restored that building. Howard stated that an individual private group owns the building. Howard asked if we plan on having an open house and who will be in charge of it for Halloween. Howard said that when he talked to Robyn Sutcliff she wasn't too optimistic that those that did it last year would be interested this year. Harold stated that we will have it because we need to. Harold stated that with the way things are in economy right now it is becoming harder to get people to volunteer time etc. Harold said that it is a big fundraiser and we need to do it. 4) Public Relations -Harold Oliver stated that Valarie Burd is not in attendance tonight so we can't discuss anything tonight. 5) Grants— Harold Oliver said that he has a girl that works in his office that is doing some research on the grants. He stated that we are going to apply for everything and anything that we can. He stated that she is researching online what we can find. New Business: None. Old Business: None. Additional Business: The committee discussed going before the city council to talk about the pros of the jail and what they have been doing. Harold Oliver stated that he would like the entire committee to be in attendance. Harold said that showing pictures and the DVD would be a good idea. Stephanie Todd stated that she is going to try to get some grass roots support for the jail by sending e- mails out for Friends of the Jail, so that the community knows what is being done. Stephanie Todd stated that a Facebook page would be a good idea for the jail. Howard stated that he can get the Facebook page done soon. Motion to adjourn meeting was made by Stephanie Todd and seconded by Rick Falato. Listed below is a tentative schedule for the Cultural Commission meetings for 2012. The proposed schedule has the Cultural Commission meeting the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Please discuss this schedule at the Cultural Commission meeting and decide if you have any changes to the dates or meeting time.
