Present: Cecelia Sanders, Bonnie Schradel, Robert Skidmore, Elden Madden, Rita Murphy,
Glory Spies, Bette Schoenholtz, Bonnie Olsem, Tim Evans, Sherry De La Rosa
Bette Schoenholtz opened the meeting.
Introductions
Approval of Minutes
After review, Rita Murphy made a motion to approve, Bob Skidmore seconded. Approved.
Old Business
1 The movies have been scheduled for the next several viewings. February will be
"Mama Mia,"April will be "The Great Debate," June will be "Gran Torino,"August,
"Taking Chance,"And October, "Monster House". There was discussion on how the
movies are chosen and if there is input from the seniors. Bonnie Schradel will check on
this.
2. Parks and Rec catalog comes out early in December. Rita Murphy asked about the
possibility of only registering for a certain class such as walking or using the pool, and if
there can be a monthly fee rather than a yearly fee. Tim Evans explained that there are
those possibilities and also that people can pay the yearly fee on a monthly basis.
3. The Knights of Columbus have the menu set for the Thanksgiving Dinner to be held
Nov. 19th. They need some guidelines. There will be 165 attending and Bob Skidmore
needs to know the times the building will be available for them to bring items over,
possibly moving some of the refrigerated foods over on Thursday afternoon. Serving will
be at 11:15 a.m. They have 240 pounds of turkey that are being prepared. He also asked
about coffee carafes to be on the tables and coffee pots to make the coffee. Glory Spies
brought over raffle tickets and a box to put them in for the drawings for the several items
that have been donated.
New Business
Rita Murphy stated there is a problem in the building with the heating. It is very cold
when people arrive in the morning and there is no way to adjust the heat. There is also a
problem with the Scout group that uses the building on Thursday nights. This past week,
they left small beads all over the floor, which is dangerous for anyone, much less older
people. They also have been messing up desks in the Senior Services area, banging on the
piano, playing with the Bingo machine, and once even turning the dial on the freezer up
to a warmer temperature. When contacted by Senior Services the scout leaders all claim it
wasn't their group there that evening. Glory will check on this.
Additional Business -None
Bonnie Olsem made a motion to adjourn, Bob Skidmore seconded. Meeting adjourned.
Next meeting—Monday, January 24, 8:30 a.m. at Beecher Center

Old Business
1 Thirty five attended the movie last month. The movies for the next two
viewings are: February, "Mama Mia," and April will be "The Great Debate,"
2. Parks and Rec has experienced some changes and layoffs. Tim said he is more
involved and the registration process for off-site should go more smoothly.
Bonnie stated she needed more catalogs. Rita suggested Tim make a presentation
at Beecher for the seniors. Tues. or Fri. would be best.
It was suggested the Rec Center have a Senior Open House or show a movie
there.
New Business
Bonnie mentioned they are planning several programs for May, which is Older
Americans Month. It was suggested to have something `health related' at the Rec
Center. The Administration on Aging is proclaiming the month of May to be
"Older Americans Connecting the Community" month.
Since the Kendall County Senior Providers are thinking of holding a Senior
Health Fair on May 13th, a Friday, Tim was asked if he felt it could be held at the
Rec Center. He will check on the date, but believes this would be a good fit. The
Fair would be from 9 to noon.
Additional Business—
Bob mentioned the youth group at St. Patrick's wants to do something for the
seniors. Rita mentioned that Plano High School holds a Spaghetti Dinner for the
seniors at the high school each year.
Tim Evans made a motion to adjourn, Bob Skidmore seconded. Meeting adjourned.

Meeting February 28, 2011
Beecher Community Center
Present: Cecelia Sanders, Bonnie Schradel, Robert Skidmore, Tim Evans, Mayor Valerie Burd, Glory
Spies, Patty Strahan, Bette Schoenholtz
Bonnie Schradel opened the meeting.
Introductions
Approval of Minutes—Quorum was not present. A list of current membership on the Ad Hoc
Committee is needed so we can determine whether a quorum is present or not.
Old Business
a. The movie attendance has been good. There will be a movie at the Rec Center in March,
"Secretariat" and April at the Beecher Center will be "The Great Debate"with"Gran Torino"
in May.
b. One of the Boy Scout groups used the movie screen, which they were told not to use, and
there is a small tear on the screen. They don't pay rent. Yolanda is checking to see which group
was using the building at the time. They are not supposed to use the sound system, either.
Bonnie asked if there could be a cage/case over the screen control so they can't work it. The
sound system is too large to be locked up each day.
c. There will be a Senior Health Fair on Friday, May 13th at the Rec Center. Senior Services has
catalogs and will highlight and promote those for seniors.
There will also be a Volunteer Drive on May 5th for the Senior Companion Program.
Glory mentioned the City is hoping to have a Volunteer Fair along with HRC, and possibly
they could work together.
May is Older Americans Month, and Senior Services will have a presentation offering
CEUs on the 12th sponsored by Supportive Home Health and there will be a Memorial Day
review with the Legacy Girls on May 27th
d. St. Patrick's Youth roups and the Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Fun Fair/Picnic for
the seniors on June lot as there are no days off of school that would work in May. Robert
suggested representatives attend the March 28th Ad Hoc meeting.
New Business
Mayor Burd reported there will be a meeting tonight at the City on the sewer bond tax. Bonnie
will mention it at the center today.
Additional Business—
Tim will have Scott check on fixing the screen tear.
Cecelia Sanders made a motion to adjourn.
