Patty Strahan, Glory Spies, Valerie Burd, Elden Madden, Tim Evans

Introductions
Approval of Minutes
After review, Bob Skidmore made a motion to approve, Bonnie Olsem seconded. Approved.
Old Business
1. Glory Spies did a brochure and handed it out for review.
2. The Needs survey was reviewed. It was suggested to add the City as a drop off point.
This will go out with the water bill in July.
3. Tim said he would have information later on about the Silver Sneakers program the
Park District is running. There was discussion on having seniors meeting at the Rec
Center or taking the Senior bus or KAT to the Rec Center from Beecher. Patty will
help to promote the senior Rec Center programs. Bonnie Olsem stressed that the
KAT program can do more than just transport to doctor appointments.
4. Registration for programs—there could be a problem with having to hold on to cash
registrations that are turned in at Beecher, but it was suggested that could be picked
up weekly and Tim Evans also stated that they take phone registrations with a credit
or debit card.
5. Glory will update the Web page information. On the brochure it was suggested to
remove the Knox Box program as there are only a few left and they are for the
southern end of the county. The File of Life was also suggested to be added.
6. The renewal of the lease of the Beecher building was brought up. It will end in 2010
and the Mayor will get the item on the agenda for the Administrative Committee. The
City is looking into grants to update the air conditioning and heat in the building.
7. There was discussion on holding a `Who's Knocking At Your Door' Fashion show as
was done in Elgin and will be done in Aurora on June 1St. Suggestions for a site
might be the new Hampton Inn. It was originally considered as part of the Senior
Police Academy, but there is no large room in the old courthouse that could be used.
Mayor Valerie Burd also stated that she had suggested the Human Resources
Commission work on a fundraiser for the senior meal program in Yorkville.
New Business
Mayor Burd asked about the need for volunteers as people do call the city offices. The
meal program needs people to deliver meals and Senior Services can also use volunteers
for various projects.

Additional Business:
Bette Schoenholtz stated that the state owes Senior Services close to $500,000. The
County did their funding allocations and Senior Services was awarded $117,500, a little
less than the $122,000 they had requested. The agency is not operating the transportation
now, but they get funding from the AAoA for transportation and that is used to purchase
rides for seniors from the KAT program.
They don't get funding for the meal program, but Senior Services does do the assessment
for the Home Delivered Meal program. Oswego now has AAoA funding for congregate
meals. The Oswego program is now a non-profit entity, Oswegoland Seniors, Inc.
Money for counseling for seniors goes to the Healthy Aging money is for recreation, and
health services.
Senior Services also needs to make a decision on their vehicles. One is new and was
funded through IDOT. The other two are older. One was also funded through IDOT.
Bette doesn't want to get rid of the new one as there may be other needs for transporting
groups of seniors to recreation events, but she will need to find more use for the vehicle
than just that of the Beecher Senior Program. Also its use would be limited to recreation
because she doesn't want to negatively impact the KAT program.
Bette also explained the senior tax referendum funding.
Cecelia Sanders made a motion to adjourn, Bette Schoenholtz seconded. Approved.
Meeting adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
Next meeting—Monday, June 28th, 8:30 a.m. at Beecher Center
