Beecher Lease Renewal New Business: Additional Business: Date of Next Meeting: Monday, August 23, 2010 Adjournment: DRAFT United City of Yorkville Senior Ad Hoc Committee Meeting June 28, 2010 Beecher Community Center Present: Cecelia Sanders, Bonnie Schradel, Robert Skidmore, Bette Schoenholtz, Patty Strahan, Glory Spies, Valerie Burd, Eldon Madden, Tim Evans, Rita Murphy Bette Schoenholtz opened the meeting. Introductions Approval of Minutes After review, Rita Murphy made a motion to approve, Eldon Madden seconded. Approved. Old Business 1. Glory stated the newsletter is going out at the end of the month. She couldn't get everything into the space available. It may need to be expanded. Most of the information is on the website. She will add a list of the movies to be shown at Beecher and also the date and time of the Ad Hoc Committee meeting. The LIHEAP information should also go in,but the tax assistance can be removed as it is only in the first months of the year. If there are Special Events they need to get to Glory by July 7`h. Bonnie is taking over the Wellness Check as of July 7`h, so people should call Senior Services instead of the number that was listed. It was also requested that as of July I", Senior Services has been designated as the agency to provide services to Veterans of all ages. They are working with the VA hospitals to do case management. 2. There was discussion on the Fashion Show. The TRIAD had suggested doing this in October rather than the Senior Police Academy, as Barry is now on nights and unable to put as much time in. Mayor Burd will contact the Hampton Inn to see if they would be willing to work with us on this. Dates suggested are October 21 or 28. 3. Tim said the Parks and Recreation catalog comes out the last week in July and he will have staff at Beecher to register seniors for programs the first week in August. It was suggested to come in on Aug. 6`h as that is the date more people are here. 4. The Needs survey has been completed and is going out in the water bills this week. It was also suggested to hand them out at the senior communities and at Beecher,but if people who fill them out are not Yorkville residents, it is requested they put their town of residence down. 5. Information on the information page was discussed earlier in the meeting. 6. The renewal lease of the Beecher building was brought up. It will end in 2010 and the Mayor will get the item on the agenda for the Administrative Committee. The City is looking into grants to update the air conditioning and heat in the building. DRAFT Page 2— Yorkville Senior Ad Hoc committee New Business The lease renewal for Beecher will be put on the agenda of the City Council in July. An attorney has looked at it. Additional Business: Robert Skidmore stated that the Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick's Church will do the Thanksgiving Dinner, providing all the food, and workers. They will need a headcount. There was discussion on a date. It was decided that Friday, November 19a` would be the date, at 11 am, with a limit of 150 attendees who must sign up ahead of time. The flyer Glory put together was reviewed. Glory Spies made a motion to adjourn, Eldon Madden seconded. Approved. Meeting adjourned Next meeting- Monday, July 26h, 8:30 am at Beecher Center
