Park District Program Registration New Business: Additional Business: Date of Next Meeting: Monday, October 25, 2010 Adjournment: DRAFT United City of Yorkville Senior Ad Hoc Committee Meeting August 23, 2010 Beecher Community Center Present: Cecelia Sanders, Bonnie Schradel, Robert Skidmore, Valerie Burd, Tim Evans, Rita Murphy, Eldon Madden, Bette Schoenholtz, Glory Spies Bette Schoenholtz opened the meeting. Introductions Approval of Minutes After review, Robert Skidmore made a motion to approve, Rita Murphy seconded. Approved. Old Business 1. Since Tim Evans had to leave early, the Park District Program Registration was moved to first on the list. There were no seniors registered at the first opportunity at Beecher. It was suggested that the Park District come on a regular basis and that it be announced ahead of time, including the cost of programs for seniors. Bette Schoenholtz stated that they would help to promote the programs. 2. Tim related information on Hometown Days—they will begin setting up next week as the event starts next Thursday. The Exchange Club decided they wanted to keep the Bingo, but volunteers for Bingo as well as other opportunities are available. Sunday, Bingo will be from 11 — 1:30 followed at 1:30 by a Zumba demonstration and at 2 by the Big Band. Senior Services will need to move their vans on Friday as there will be a car show over the weekend. Fox Country Players will also be putting on a performance in the Beecher Center. Cecelia Sanders related that at the Sugar Grove Corn Boil, there was a section of parking in front of the school that was for seniors and handicapped. Tim said he would consider using that designation. 3. Needs Survey—there were 209 turned in. Many stated they look to the City Newsletter and local papers to provide information. Bonnie Schradel suggested that having a `year of birth' might have helped to designate those who were seniors from those who were not. Glory Spies mentioned having weekly promotions and updates. Rita Murphy asked about using the sign out in front to promote programs. Tim said that would be fine and to submit items to him. He could also put a banner in the park for general items. Glory suggested promoting the Thanksgiving Dinner. Bette also related that the Caregiver and Dementia support groups meet through Senior Services. Senior Services also has over 800 seniors getting Case Management. 4. The "Who's Knocking at Your Door"Fashion Show has the support of the Kane County Sheriff's Department. They will provide the Power Point program but we will need to get the logos from the various participating police departments to him. He will also provide the list of contacts for ComEd, Nicor, etc. Attendees should call Senior Services to register. 5. The Beecher Lease renewal— it was recommended that the rent be $500 a month instead of$1000. Senior Services pays for paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning supplies. The daily rental for the building will go up nominally to cover this cost for Scouts, etc. Mayor Burd related the item is on the agenda for tomorrow's City Council meeting. 6. PADS Update—There is a lot of talking going on. They still need 2 more sites to fill out 7 days. They plan to start this fall. Transportation issues have not really been addressed. New Business 1.
