Todd and seconded by Howard Manthei.
Committee Reports:
Yorkville Has Talent -
The volunteers on the committee are not in attendance tonight. Harold stated
this is taking longer than planned, but with holidays etc. it is understandable.
Historical Jail -
Howard stated that during the winter the committee couldn't do anything. He stated
this year, if we do anything, it will be the kitchen, which is a big step. Howard stated he continues to be
frustrated when he hears the jail is looking to be sold. Harold stated that this committee needs to take
this to city council and see if it will be sold, and then decide what direction this committee should go.
Public Relations -
Harold stated he feels that the committee needs to speak to the Mayor and see what
the city thinks in regard to this committee. Harold said the committee should handle this in an open
meeting as more of a conversation and find out what the city thinks of this committee and get a feel for
what direction the city wants to go. Harold said not just for the jail, but for this committee in general.
Harold said the committee doesn't want to put our efforts in here for nothing. He stated we started this
committee to leave a legacy for our grand kids and a better quality of life for others. The committee
agreed.
Grants -
Harold stated he had someone starting that, but when the city started talking about selling the
jail, he put it on hold. He stated we would not take a grant from someone else, if the city is planning on
selling the building. Stephanie stated it would have to be on the national registry and there is not grant
money right now. Harold said rather than spending all of our time, lets just get the city council here and
decide what direction they want the committee to go.
Stephanie Todd made a motion that committee invite the Mayor and city council members to attend the
next meeting and the motion was seconded by Rick Falato. The committee was in agreement to invite
council to next meeting. Harold said he will make a call to the Mayor and ask the Mayor to invite other
members of city council. Harold stated he does not want this to be a political issue.
Stephanie Todd brought up the insurance liability issue. The committee discussed how the insurance
was covered. Stephanie stated she would call Bart Olson and find out the details on how the insurance
works.
New Business:
Committee Policies -
Howard stated he wanted to get approval on expenditures ahead of time. Howard
stated this is a moot point for now, since we are not going to do any further work on the building until
we know the direction the city wants to take this.
Old Business:
None.
Additional Business:
None.
Adjournment -
The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. A motion was made by Stephanie Todd and
seconded by Rick Falato.
