RESOLUTION APPROVING THE REVISED JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE
POSITION OF SUPERINTENDENT OF RECREATION
WHEREAS, it is important for the UNITED CITY OF YORKVILLE to maintain job
descriptions for the various positions within the CITY, and
WHEREAS, a revised job description has been recommended for the position of
Superintendent of Recreation, and has been reviewed, and approved by the City Council.
NOW THEREFORE, upon motion duly made, seconded, and approved by a majority of
those voting,be it resolved that the attached job description incorporated herein by preference for
the position of Superintendent of Recreation be adopted.

Job Description
Department: Recreation
Reports to: Director of Parks &Recreation
Status: Full Time, Salary, Exempt
Positions Supervised: Program Supervisor/Administrative Assistant/Custodial/Instructor
Position Description Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation the Superintendent,working manager for the
Recreation Department is responsible for the planning, organization and supervision of all recreation
programs, staff and all recreation facilities under their jurisdiction. The Superintendent of Recreation
shall represent the Park Board at meetings, workshops, conferences and in other situations, as assigned
in the absence of the Director, as it relates to recreation.
Essential Job Functions
1. Initiate,plan and administer a diversified recreation program within the framework of the
policies set forth by the Director and Park Board.
2. Formulate and recommend to the Director policies and procedures pertaining to department
issues and employees.
3. Attend meetings when necessary under the direction and in the absence of the Director.
4. Prepare and distribute quarterly recreation documents that depict the overall health and
performance of the Recreation Department,regarding gains, losses, program growth,rental
facilities, income and expenses.
5. Prepare and distribute an annual report that represents the yearly accomplishments and
activities of the recreation department.
6. Recruit and recommend employment of coordinators coaches and volunteers for programs.
7. Supervise and evaluate recreation staff and conduct evaluation reports.
8. Assist in the moving, lifting, coordination and inventory of facility and program equipment.
9. Oversee the operation of the Beecher Community Building; including rental and maintenance
of facility.
10. Oversee the operation of the Skate Park, including staff and maintenance of the facility.

11. Supervise the operations and"cross training" of the recreation office staff, including duties,
�-' hours and organization.
12. Prepare the recreation department budget and assist Director regarding the complete annual
budget.
13. Organize, promote and stimulate good relationships,joint programs and activities with
community and other organizations serving the area.
14. Prepare the annual "activity calendar"pertaining to hour and usage of the Yorkville School
District's facilities.
15. Attend conferences, workshops and seminars pertaining to the growth and needs of the
department, as approved by the Director.
16. Assist with promoting other sources of revenue relating to recreation; i.e. grants, sponsors,
donations.
17. Assist in scheduling the use of all park and recreation facilities including but not limited to:
Beecher Community Building, Riverfront Park,Town Square Gazebo, Skate Park, and Sports
Fields.
18. Assist in registration for programs and rental of facilities when needed,maintaining
confidentiality of personal information received by patrons.
19. Maintain office hours in accordance with Park Board recommendations.
20. May regularly be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up
to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
21. Perform other duties and functions as directed by the Director of Parks & Recreation.
Basic Requirements -Job Knowledge
1. Will have excellent communication and writing skills.
2. Will have the ability to administer and supervise computer programming, networking and
overall telecommunications
3. Will have strong administrative skills, experience in scheduling, delegating and reporting.
4. Will have working knowledge of the park and recreation system.
5. Will have the ability to calculate utilizing basic math skills.
6. References and work record show reliability, initiative, tact and productivity.

7. Will have strong personnel skills and the ability to have a good working relationship with
staff, volunteers, coaches and overall public.
8. Will have the ability to be a"self motivator" and"mediator" in necessary situations.
9. Must maintain a valid driver's license and abide by the Park&Recreation Department vehicle
policy.
10. Must comply with all rules,policies, regulations and procedures related to the United City of
Yorkville's employee manual.
1.1. Will not accept outside employment that will conflict and compromise the success of the
Recreation Department,per employee manual.
Minimum and Preferred Experience and Education
1. Bachelor Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Leisure Services or related field and a
minimum of five years field experience in supervision, leadership, and development of staff
or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPRP preferred.
2. Must have outstanding communication skills,must be highly organized,motivated, and
possess strong leadership skills.
3. Must have experience in computer and programming skills; experience relating to recreation
software;publisher software and word processing,RecTrac preferred.
4. Must have successfully completed a background investigation with findings of good character
and no felony convictions.
