Resolution 2000-22 STATE OF II,LINOIS ) )ss COUNTY OF KENDALL ) RESOLUTION NO: 2000- RESOLUTION ANNOUNCING SUPPORT OF THE KENDALL COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY SALES TAX WHEREAS, the past decade has seen the population of Kendall County increase by over 50%; and, WHEREAS, Kendall County is currently the fastest growing County in the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the activity of the Kendall County Criminal Justice System has increased at a rate that far exceeds the rapid growth of the County's population; and WHEREAS, the Kendall County Criminal Justice System serves both unincorporated areas of Kendall County and the growing municipalities of Kendall County; and WHEREAS, the dramatic increase in the cost of operating the Kendall County Criminal Justice System has placed increasing pressure on the property taxpayers of Kendall County; and WHEREAS, the Kendall County Board, consistently attempts balances the need to provide necessary government services while minimizing the burden on property taxpayers; and WHEREAS, the Kendall County Board has placed on the November ballot a referendum question that will ask voters if a Public Safety Sales Tax of 0.25% shall be imposed on all retail sales within Kendall County, the exception being of sales 1 food, licensed vehicles, medicine and medical equipment, with the new revenue generated being committed to the expenses associated with crime prevention, detention, and other public safety purposes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the UNITED CITY OF YORKVILLE City Council supports the Kendall County Board's efforts to identify an alternative revenue source to assist with the rapidly rising cost of criminal justice in Kendall County and encourages each voting resident of Kendall County to consider voting "Yes" on the upcoming Public Safety Sales Tax referendum question.
