REF: Proposed Revision for to the Part Time Police Officer Salary Schedule
DATE: October 31, 2000
Recommendation:
The proposed revised salary schedule for the Part Time Police Officer position was
approved by the Public Safety Committee at their monthly meeting on 10/24/00 for
recommendation to the C.O.W. meeting, November 2, 2000.
Proposed Plan:
A salary survey was conducted by Lt. Martin (attached) and the average rate was $12.04
per hour which is an increase of$1.54 per hour. The last survey was conducted in September
1998. As a reminder, all our Part Time Officers are certified by the Illinois Police Training Board
and thev receive in-service training , along with firearms qualifications. I'm recommending a
revised salary schedule to be effective December 1, 2000. The budget impact projected is none at
this time because the budget of$20,000 is based on projected hours work of 1,800 hours. At this
time we have spent 45% of the budget ($9,000) which is about 820 hours. As of 10/07/2000, we
have expended 785 hours. We anticipate the projected hours to finish the fiscal year to be about
800 hrs at a rate of 13.50 which equals $10,800. Therefore, the salary schedule increase should
not have an impact on the budget. Moreover, the increase equates to $1,312 which can be
absorbed within the budgeted amount. (Note: Last fiscal year's total hours expended for part-
time was 1,382 hours).
Years of Service Revised Current
0 - 12 Months $ 11.75 per hour $10.00 per hour
1 - 2 Years $ 12.25 per hour $10.50 per hour
2 - 3 Years $ 12.75 per hour $11.00 per hour
More than 3 Years $ 14.00 per hour $11.50 - $12.00 per hour
