Resolution 1997-02 STATE OF ILLINOIS)
)SS
COUNTY OF KENDALL)
RESOLUTION 1997_
WHEREAS the City of Yorkville operates a public water utility
which has been granted a variance from restricted status by the
Illinois Pollution Control Board as it relates to the standard for
radium in drinking water, and;
WHEREAS this variance has been granted in part because the 20
pCi/l standard proposed in the USEPA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking
(NPRM) published in June, 1991 would significantly alter the City' s
needs for alternatives to achieve compliance, and;
WHEREAS any actions taken by the City of Yorkville to achieve
compliance with the current USEPA interim standard of 5pCi/l would
create a significant financial burden which would be unnecessary
under the NPRM, and;
WHEREAS there have been no objective empirical studies which
indicate that the standards outlined in the NPRM would create a
health risk to the City of Yorkville water utility customers .
NOW BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Yorkville respectfully
asks the USEPA to adopt the standards published in the NPRM as it
relates to radium in drinking water without delay or fully explain
the reason for delay including any evidence that might suggest the
original NPRM standard might constitute a health risk.
Approved this day of 1997 .
