RESOLUTION 1996-I
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE UNITED STATES
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY'S NEW
RADIUM STANDARDS FOR PUBLIC WATER SUPPLIES
WHEREAS, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has proposed new guidelines
which would lift restrictions and compliance measures for public water supply radium standards
for those water suppliers who have radium levels below new revised United States Environmental
Protection Agency Standards; and
WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency has not yet determined
whether they will in fact adopt new revised standards; and
WHEREAS, if the United States Environmental Protection Agency does not adopt the new
standards the City of Yorkville will be required to meet the Illinois Environmental Protection
Agency Standards costing the City up to 3.3 million dollars over the next three to five years.
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE UNITED CITY OF
YORKVILLE;
1. That the City supports the new proposed United States Environmental Protection
Agency Standards for public water supply radium levels.
2. That the City requests Congressmen Dennis Hastert to determine the status of the new
standards and encourage their adoption by the Agency.
