Ordinance 1975-20 FHD:GKH ORDINANCE NO. 20 AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OF THE UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE, PROVIDING FOR STOP AND YIELD INTERSECTIONS, FOR THE ERECTION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AT CERTAIN INTERSECTIONS, PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF , AND AMENDING AN ORDINANCE PASSED NOVEMBER 3, 1962 BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council of the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE, Kendall County, Illinois as follows : SECTION l: The following intersections are hereby declared to constitute "stop" intersections within the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE: Van Emmon Street and Main Street, with Van Emmon Street traffic stopping for Main Street traffic. Madison and Main, with Madison traffic stopping for Main traffic. Church and Somonauk, with Church traffic stopping for Somonauk traffic. King and Somonauk, with King traffic stopping for Somonauk traffic. West Street and Somonauk, with West Street traffic stopping for Somonauk traffic. I I -2- Tower Lane and Somonauk, with Tower Lane traffic stopping for Somonauk traffic. West Somonauk Street and Game Farm Road, with West Somonauk Street traffic stopping for Game Farm Road traffic at the west entrance of the intersection. East Main Street and McHugh Road, with East Main Street traffic stopping for McHugh Road traffic at the east entrance of the intersection. West Kendall and Center Parkway, with West Kendall traffic stopping for Center Parkway traffic. Walnut and Bristol Road, with Walnut traffic stopping for Bristol Road traffic. Bristol Road and Walnut, with Bristol Road traffic stopping at the south entrance to the intersection of Walnut Street. SECTION 2 : The following intersections are hereby declared to constitute "yield" intersections within the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE: West Alley and Hydraulic Street, with West Alley yielding for traffic on Hydraulic Street. West Ridge and Morgan, with West Ridge yielding for traffic on Morgan at the west entrance of the intersection. West Washington and Main Street, with West Washington yielding for traffic on Main Street. West Washington and State Street, with West Washington yielding for traffic on State Street. West Orange and Main Street, with West Orange yielding for traffic on Main Street. West Orange and State Street, with West Orange yielding for traffic on State Street. -3- West Dolph and Main Street, with West Dolph yielding for traffic on Main Street. West Beecher and Main Street, with West Beecher yielding for traffic on Main Street. West Elizabeth and Main Street, with West Elizabeth yielding for traffic on Main Street. Mill and Van Emmon, with Mill yielding for traffic on Van Emmon. SECTION 3: Every operator of a vehicle or other conveyance traveling upon any street and approaching a "stop" intersection, as above indicated, shall bring such vehicle or conveyance to a full stop at the place where such street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of the through street at the intersection, unless said intersecting street is determined to be a "yield" street, as herein described, in which case every operator shall reduce the speed of his vehicle to not more than 20 m.p.h. and shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles which have entered the intersecting street, either from the right or left, or which are approaching so closely on said intersecting street as to constitute an immediate hazard, but said driver having so yielded may proceed at such time as a safe interval occurs, subject, however, to the direction of any traffic control sign or signal or any police officer at such "stop" or "yield" intersection. The operator of any vehicle who has come to a full stop as required above or who has passed a yield sign, upon entering the through street, as well as operators t -4- of vehicles on such through street, shall be subject to the usual right-of-way rule prescribed by law and applicable to vehicles at intersections. SECTION 4 : The Police Department of the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE is hereby directed to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance, and any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than ONE ($1. 00) DOLLAR nor more than ONE HUNDRED ($100. 00) DOLLARS for each offense. SECTION 5 : This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. SECTION 6 : The effective provisions of ordinances passed heretofore and not inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby expressly ratified and all provisions inconsistent herewith are expressly repealed.
