Ordinance 1975-22 FHD:GKH ORDINANCE NO. 22 , AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OF THE UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE, PROVIDING FOR STOP AND YIELD INTERSECTIONS, FOR THE ERECTION OF TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AT CERTAIN INTERSECTIONS, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council of the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE, Kendall County, Illinois as follows : SECTION l : The following intersection is hereby declared to constitute a "stop" intersection within the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE: East Kendall Drive and Countryside Parkway, with East Kendall Drive traffic stopping for Countryside Parkway traffic. SECTION 2 : The following intersections are hereby declared to constitute "yield" intersections within the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE: Madison Street and State Street, with Madison Street yielding for traffic on State Street. Madison Street and Morgan Street, with Madison Street yielding for traffic on Morgan Street. Spring Street and Colton Street, with Spring Street yielding for traffic on Colton Street. -2- Center Street and Colton Street, with Center Street yielding for traffic on Colton Street. Church Street and Main Street, with Church Street yielding for traffic on Main Street. SECTION 3: Every operator of a vehicle or other conveyance traveling upon any street and approaching a "stop" inter- section, as above indicated, shall bring such vehicle or conveyance to a full stop at the place where such street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line of the through street at the intersection, unless said intersecting street is determined to be a "yield" street, in which case every operator shall reduce the speed of his vehicle to not more than 20 m.p.h. and shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles which have entered the intersecting street, either from the right or left, or which are approaching so closely on said intersecting street as to constitute an immediate hazard, but said driver having so yielded may proceed at such time as a safe interval occurs, subject, however, to the direction of any traffic control sign or signal or any police officer at such "stop" or "yield" intersection. The operator of any vehicle who has come to a full stop as required above or who has passed a yield sign, upon entering the through street, as well as operators • -3- of vehicles on such through street, shall be subject to the usual right-of-way rule prescribed by law and applicable to vehicles at intersections. SECTION 4 : The Police Department of the UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE is hereby directed to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance, and any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than ONE ($1. 00) DOLLAR nor more than ONE HUNDRED ($100 . 00) DOLLARS for each offense. SECTION 5 : This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. SECTION 6 : The effective provisions of ordinances passed heretofore and not inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby expressly ratified and all provisions inconsistent herewith are expressly repealed.
