Ordinance 1973-45 FHD:GKH f AN ORDINANCE OF THE UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE, KENDALL COUNTY, ILLINOIS DESIGNATING THE INTERSECTION OF CHURCH AND RIVER STREETS AS A STOP INTERSECTION WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville have investigated and studied the necessity of placing traffic control signals at the intersection of Church and River Streets within the United. City of the Village of Yorkville; and WHEREAS, after investigating the advisability of placing traffic control signals at said intersection, it has been determined by the Mayor and City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville that public interest and safety would be subserved by placing stop signs at said intersection and designating said intersection as a stop intersection within the City of Yorkville, and specifically placing stop signs at the entrances to said intersection on Church and River Streets . NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois: Section 1: That the following intersection is hereby declared to constitute a stop intersection: The intersection of Church and River Streets, with traffic stopping at all three corners and with three-way -2- stop signs placed at the entrances to the intersection. Section 2: Every operator of a vehicle, or other conveyance, traveling upon Church Street or River Street shall bring such vehicle or conveyance to a full stop at the entrance to the above designated intersection and shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles which have entered the intersection, and all such vehicles within the said intersection shall have the right-of-way over vehicles so stopped.. Operators of vehicles having so yielded the right-of-way to vehicles within the intersection, as required above, may proceed at such time as a safe interval passes . Section 3 : The corporate authorities , and particularly the Superintendent of Streets and Alleys of the United City of the Village of Yorkville, are hereby authorized and required to place and maintain, or cause to be placed and maintained, at or near the property lines of the near sides of the intersection on Church and River Streets, "three-way stop signs , said signs to be located in such position and to be provided with letters of a size to be clearly legible in conformance with the State Manual and Specifications for such signs . Section 4: The Police Department of the Village of Yorkville is hereby directed to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance, and any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than t -3- $1.00 nor more than $100 .00 for each offense. Section 5 : That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. Section 6: The effective provisions for Ordinances passed heretofore and not in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby expressly ratified, and all provisions inconsistent herewith are expressly repealed.
