Ordinance 1973-46 FHD:GKH AN ORDINANCE OF THE UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE, KENDALL COUNTY, ILLINOIS DESIGNATING THE INTERSECTIONS OF CHURCH AND CENTER STREETS AND KING AND CENTER STREETS AS YIELD INTERSECTIONS WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville have investigated and studied the necessity of placing traffic control signals at the intersections of Church and Center Streets and King and Center Streets within the United City of the Village of Yorkville; and WHEREAS, after investigating the advisability of placing traffic control signals at said intersections , it has been determined by the Mayor and City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville that public interest and safety would be subserved by placing yield signs at said intersections and designating said intersections as yield intersections within the City of Yorkville, and specifically placing yield signs at the entrances to said intersections on King Street and Church Street, thereby yielding to traffic at each intersection on Center Street. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois : Section l: That the following intersections are hereby declared to constitute yield intersections: -2- The intersection of Church and Center Streets and the intersection of King and Center Streets , with Center Street being designated as the street having the right-of-way at each intersection, and King and Church Streets yielding at the entrances to each such intersections in both directions to said intersections . Section 2: Every operator of a vehicle, or other conveyance, traveling through said intersections above designated upon Church Street or King Street shall reduce the speed of his vehicle in obedience to such yield signs to a speed reasonable for the existing conditions , and, if required for safety, stop at the entrance to the above designated intersections and yield the right-of-way to other vehicles in the intersection or approaching the above designated intersections from Center Street so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard; but the said operator, having so yielded, may proceed at such time as a safe interval occurs . Section 3 : The corporate authorities, and particularly the Superintendent of Streets and Alleys of the United City of the Village of Yorkville, are hereby authorized and required to place and maintain, or cause to be placed and maintained, at or near the property line of the near side of the inter- sections on Church and King Streets, "yield" signs , said signs to be located in such position and to be provided w �r -3- with letters of a size to be clearly legible in conformance with the State Manual and Specifications for such signs . Section 4 : The Police Department of the Village of Yorkville is hereby directed to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance , and any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than $1 .00 nor more than $100 .00 for each offense . Section 5 : That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by law. Section 6: The effective provisions for Ordinances passed heretofore and not in conflict with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby expressly ratified, and all provisions inconsistent herewith are expressly repealed .
