Ordinance 1967-37 STOP-SIGN ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAFFIC UPON THE PUBLIC
STREETS OF TFE UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE,
PROVIDING FOR THROUGH STREETS, FOR THE ERECTION OF
TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVISES UPON OTHER STREETS AND PROVIDING
FOR A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF, AND AMENDING
AN ORDINANCE PASSED NOVEMBER 3, 1962.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and the City Council for the United City of the
Village of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois:
Section 1 . The following streets and parts of streets are hereby declared to
constitute through streets in the United City of the Village of Yorkville:
Heustis Street from East Hydraulic Street to Orange Street;
Mill Street from the southerly City limits to Van Emmon
Street, excepting its intersection with Orange Street, which
is declared to be a four-way stop intersection.
Section 2 . Every operator of a vehicle or other conveyance travelling upon any
street intersecting any through street above designated, shall bring such vehicle or conveyance
to a full stop at the place where such street meets the prolongation of the nearest property line
of such through street, unless said intersecting street is determined to be a "yield" street as
hereinafter described, in which case every operator shall reduce the speed of his vehicle to
not more than 20 miles per hour and shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles which have
entered the intersecting street either from the right or left or which are approaching so closely
on said intersecting street as to constitute an immediate hazard; but said driver having so yielded may

proceed at such time as a safe interval occurs. Subject, however, to fhe direction of any traffic
control sign or signal or any police officer at such intersection.
The operator of any vehicle who has come to a full stop as, required above , or who has
passed a yield sign, upon entering the through street, as well as operators of vehicles on such through
street, shall be subject to the usual right of way rule prescribed by law and applicable to
vehicles at intersections.

Section 3. The corporate authorities of the/City of the Village of Yorkville are hereby
authorized and required to place and maintain, or cause to be placed and maintained, on each and
every street intersecting a through street designated above, and at or near the property line of
the through street, appropriate signs upon the street, such signs or devises to bear the word
"STOP", with the exception of the intersections of W-iIter Street with ;M-ill Street, Olson Street

with Mill Street, and Washington Street with `Rill Street at which points "YIELD" signs
are to be erected, said signs to be located in such position and to be provided with letters
of a size to be clearly legible from a distance of at least 100 feet along the street intersecting
the through street. All such signs shall be illuniated at night, or so placed as to be illuminated
by street lights, or by the headlights of approaching motor vehicles.
Section 4. The Pelice Department of the City of Yorkville is hereby directed to
enforce the provisions of this Ordinance and any person violating any of the provisions of
this ordinance shall be fined not less than One Dollar ($1 .00), nor more than One Hundred
Dollars ($100.00) for each offense.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after it's
passage and publication as provided by law.
Section b. The effective provisions of ordinances passed heretofore and not
in�,onsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby expressly ratified and all
provisions inconsistent herewith are expressly repealed.
