Ordinance 1958-33 TRAFFIC ORDINANCE
An Ordinance regulating traffic within the corporate limits
of the United City of the Village of Yorkville, Illinois.
BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the United City of
the Village of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois:
SECTION I - Definitions
Wherever in this Ordinance the following terms
are used they shall have the meaning respectfully ascribed to
them in this section.
Motor Vehicle-Whatiever the word "motor vehicle"
is used herein it shall mean a vehicle which is self-pro-
pelled and shall include motor cycles, motor scooters, and
all vehicles of both the first and second class as defined
in Sub-division 1 of, "An Act in Relation to the Regulation
of Traffic", as approved July 9, 1935, as amended, of the
State of Illinois. (as further found in Illinois Revised
Statutes 1957s Chapter 952)
Bicycle - Every devise propelled by human power
upon which any person may ride having two tandem wheels,
either of which is more than twenty inches in diameter.
Driver - Any person who is in actual physical
control of a vehicle or bicycle.
Highway - The entire width between the boundary
lines of every way publically mairiain6d when any part there-
of is open to the use of the public for the purpose of
vehicular traffic.
Street - The entire width between boundary lines
of every way publically maintained when any part thereof is
open to the use of the public for the purpose of vehicular
traffic.

Intersection - The area embraced within the pro-
longation or connection of the lateral curve lines or if
none, then the lateral boundary lines of the highways or
streets which join one another at, or approximately at,
right angles or the area within which vehicles traveling
upon different highways or streets joining at another angle
may come in conflict, whether or not such streets or high-
ways cross.
SECTION II - Method of Approaching for Left Turn -
The driver of any motor vehicle or bicycle intend-
ing to turn to the left at an intersection or into any alley or
driveway shall approach the point of turning in the traffic lane
nearest the center of the highway or street.
SECTION III - Method of Approaching for Right Turn -
The driver of a motor vehicle or bicycle intending
to turn to the right at any intersection or into any alley or
driveway shall approach the point of turning in the traffic lane
nearest the right hand edge or curve of the highway or street.
SECTION IV - Prohibition from Crossing Center Line -
No driver of any vehicle or bicycle shall cross
the center line of any highway or street except when making a
left turn at an intersection or turning into an alley or driveway,
or except ire passing another vehicle where authorized to do so
or except in case of emergency.
SECTION V - Prohibition Against Changing Direction -
No person who has parked or left a motor vehicle
or bicycle along or upon Bridge Street in the United City of the
Village of Yorkville, Illinois, between a point 50 feet South of
the intersection of VanEmmon Street and Bridge Street in the
Borough of Yorkville, and a point 50 feet North of the intersection
of Main Street and Bridge in the Borough of Bristol, shall after

backing or pulling away from the sidewalk or curb preparatory to
departing therefrom proceed in any direction other than forward in
the same direction in which he or she was driving at the time he
or she parked or left said motor vehicle or bicycle.
SECTION VI - Prohibition Against U-Turn -
No person driving any motor vehicle or bicycle
shall turn so as to proceed in the opposite direction or attempt
to make a U-turn along or upon Bridge Street in the United City
of the Village of Yorkville between a point 50 feet South of the
intersection of VanEmmon Street and Bridge Street in the Borough
of Yorkville and a point 50 feet North of the intersection of
Bridge Street and Main Street in the Borough of Bristol, nor
shall any person driving any such motor vehicle or bicycle along
or upon Bridge Street between the two aforesaid points in the
United City of the Village of Yorkville cross over from one side
of the street to the other in order to park or leave said auto-
mobile or to change the course of travel of said automobile.
SECTION VII - Signs -
The Police Committee shall see that proper signs
are erected and maintained prohibiting U-turns where the same are
so prohibited by this Ordinance, said signs to contain in printed
letters the wording "No U-turn" and to be placed so as to be
easily seen by all drivers of motor vehicles and bicycles.
SECTION VIII- Prohibition Against Stopping on Bridge -
No person shall stop or park a motor vehicle or
bicycle upon the bridge between the Borough of Bristol and the
Borough of Yorkville except in a case of an emergency.
SECTION IX - Penalty
Any person, firm or corporation violating this
Ordinance shall be fined not less than $1.00 nor more than $100.00
for each offense and a separate offense shall be deemed committed
on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues.
SECTION X
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with this Ordinance are hereby repealed and this Ordinance shall
be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publi"
cation according to law.
