Ordinance 1957-45A 16 WHEEL TAX ORDINANCE BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the United City of the Village of Yorkville, Illinois: Section 1. Definition. Whenever the term "motor ve- hicle" is used in this chapter it shall be construed to include automobiles, locomobiles and all vehicles propelled otherwise than by muscular power, except traction engines and road rollers, the cars of electric and steam railways, and other motor ve- hicles running only upon rails or tracks, but nothing in this chapter shall be construed to affect bicycles or tricycles or other vehicles propelled exclusively by muscular power. Section 2. Licenses. Every owner or operator of a motor vehicle or motor bicycle who resides within the United City, or whose principal place of business is located within the Vaited City and whose motor vehicle or motor vehicles are habi- tually operated upon United City streets and garaged or parked within the United City limits when not in use, shall pay each year to the Clerk a tax or license fee for theuse of each motor vehicle or motor bicycle used on any public street or alley in the united City, as is hereinafter provided. Section 3. Fees . The annual fees to be paid for vehicle licenses shall be as follows: For Passenger Vehicles . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 5.00 For Trucks gross weight in lbs. including vehicle and maximum load not exceeding 8,000 lbs. 7.00 For Trucks gross weight in lbs. including vehicle and maximum load over 8,000 lbs. . . . . . . . 9.00 EFor Motorbuses . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12.00 For Motorcylces . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.00 Section 4. Dealers License. The license plates issued to dealers in motor vehicles for vehicles held for sale and used only for demonstrations may be transferred to any other vehicle so held and used by the same dealer; provided that such dealers t f-eC_ 2 - shall procure one license for each motor vehicle so held by him at any one time during the year . Section 5. Application - Insurance. Every owner or operator of a motor vehicle or motor bycycle desiring a license for such motor vehicle shall file an applicatiorAith the Clerk, setting forth the name and address of the applicant and a de- scription of the vehicle for which the license is desired. Upon payment of the fee herein provided the clerk shall issue or cause to be issued a license which shall be attested by him, authorizing the use of such vehicle within the United City un- til the expiration of the license . Section 6. Time of Payment - License Year . Such license fees shall be due and payable annually in .a.dvance on the 1st day of January of each year , and the license shall be for one year , provided that all licenses purchased 'within sixty (60) days prior to the beginning of each license year shall be entitled to a discount of Two Dollars ($2 .00) for each license purchased. Any license purchased after the beginning of the license year shall receive no discount, but shall pay the full license feg; provided that if the purchase of a vehicle is made six (6 ) months after the start of the license year, then upon application being made to the Clerk, a license shall be issued for the remainder of the year upon payment of one-half of the fee herein required. Section 7. Plates. Each applicant upon payment of the fee, shall be given a license plate, or windshield sticker with- out charge, of such design and material as may be approved by the Mayor and City Council, which plate shall be fastened in a prominent and visible place on the front of the vehicle at all times that it is operated in the United City. Section 8. Use of Funds. All revenue derived from such license fees , except for the cost of issuing the licenses 3 and plates and collecting fees, shall be kept as a separate fund and used only for paying the cost of street or alley re- pairs and improvements, as is provided by statute. Section 9. Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this chapter shall be fined not less than Five Dollars ($5.00) nor more than Two Hundred Dol- lars ($200.00) for each offense; and a separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. Section 10. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication as required by law. 44 Passed this �, day of 1957.
