Feedback, Direction and Recommendation
Proposed recommendations to the Comprehensive Plan Update Steering Committee
Krysti J. Barksdale-Noble, AICP Community Development
Name Department
Per the contract with our consultant on the Comprehensive Plan Update, the Lakota Group
has proposed the establishment of a Steering Committee of 9-17 individuals to discuss the planning
issues identified and solutions proposed as part of the update process. As proposed, the Steering
Committee, which will meet at certain milestone dates during the process, is a blend of
representatives from the elected/appointed public bodies, community businesses and residents. The
Lakota Group intends to begin meeting with the Steering Committee within the next few weeks as
they continue to move forward with stakeholder interviews, analyses of existing plans, preparation of
draft concepts and presentation of direction reports.
Staff has prepared the following list of potential representatives to the Comprehensive Plan
Update Steering Committee for review, feedback and recommendation by the Economic
Development Committee (EDC) and appointment by the Mayor:
1. Economic Development Committee (1 member)
2. Plan Commission (1 member)
3. Zoning Board of Appeals (1 member)
4. Park Board (1 member)
5. Library Board (1 member)
6. Yorkville School District (1 member)
7. Morris Hospital (1 member)
8. Rush Copley Hospital (1 member)
9. Local Homeowners Association (2 members)
10. Chamber of Commerce (2 members)
11. Local Developer/Builder (1 member)
12. Residents (2 members)
The total time commitment for the Steering Committee is estimated at twenty (20) to twenty-
eight (28) hours for meetings, workshops and the review of three (3) draft plan documents over the 2-
year planning process. Attached is a summary and tentative schedule prepared by the Lakota Group
of Steering Committee meeting dates. Staff is seeking concurrence of the proposed representative
groups as well as recommendation of members, if any.
Staff will be available at Tuesday night’s meeting discuss this item in further detail and
answer any questions the Economic Development Committee may have at that time.
