City Council Minutes 1950 02-06-50 yorkville, Illinois February 6, 1950 The regular monthly meeting pf the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois was held at the Village Hall of said Village on Monda$,February , 1950 and was called to order by President Renfro at 7: 30 o' clock! P.M. Finding present on roll call were President Renfro, Trustees Price,Windett,Horton,Leifheit,Hughes and Clark Ament Absent: Trustee Loomis. Minutes of the meeting held January 3, 1950 were read and so ordered approved. The regular monthly report of the Clark was read and so ordered approved. I! i Yorkville, Illinois February 6, 1950 Trustee James Price presented the bridge light agreement,an after consideration by the Board,the following resolution and moved its adoption: Be it and it is hereby resolved that the Village President and,, Clerk be authorized to execute Vhe bridge light agreement on behalf of the Village of Yorkville . " Trustee Windett seconded the motion to adopt the resolution: Roll Call : Ayes Price,Windett,Horton,Leifheit,Hughes. Nays, None . The President declared the motion carried and resolution adopted. An ordinance entitled " An Ordinance Bstablishing A Police Department in the Village of Yorkville , Kendall County,Illinois !" was prasented by TrusteeWPade*tand was read by the Clerk. On moti3on by Trustee Windett, seconded by Trustee Hughes that the said Police Ordinance be passed and adopted. Roll Call: Ayes-Price ,Windett ,Horton,Leifheit,Hughes. Nays, None The President declared the motion carried and the Ordinance passed and adopted. A resolution urging that the intersection of State Routes 47 and 71 be made a four way stop was read and on motion by Trustee" Windett, seconded by Trustee Horton thht the said resolution be adopted. Upon favorable vote , President Renfro declared the motion carried and the resolution adopted. President Renfro appointed Franklin Nartyn as Chief of Polic , aunt his salary be fixed at $210.00 per month,payable semi monthl ►, the appointment to be effective from February 1, 1950. Roll Call- President and Board voting jointly- '! Ayes- Renfro ,Price ,Windett,Horton,Leifheit,Hughes. Nays- None. Appointment approved. On motion the meeting was adjourned Clerk Presiden RESOLUTION• I -'.#yJHruREAS, during the past several years,a number of serious automobile accidents have occurred at the Intersection of I111 is Paved Highway Routes Number 47 and 71, which point is located about one mile south of Yorkville, Illinois, and WHEREAS, in ss.id accidents quite a few persons have been fatally injured, including in one accident 3 members of one of Yorkville' s most highly respected families, and a number of other persons have sustained more or less serious injuries therein and WHEREAS; we feel that an even more serious accident than ii heretofore will occur at s!- id intersection inasmuch as said in-11 tersection is crossed a number of times a day by School Buses transporting pupils to and from the York,01la Public School, and'' WHEREAS, it is our firm belief that said junction of said '. highways is a very dangerous one and said accidents have occureld because of obstructions there and because the topography of thel. land at said place is such that a clear view from other directiohs cannot be obtained by an automobile or truck driver approaching', said intersection, and WHEREAS; we believe it is more important to save a human life, which should be held most sacred, than to inconvenience any truck or automobile driver. NOW THEREFORE BE IT AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that we respectifully petition the Division of Highways of the Illinois' +' Department of Public Works and Buildings to immediately designate said intersection as a so-called „Four Way Stop" intersection and place the appropriate markings therefor, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this reso-i lution be either mailed or delivered to the Honorable Thomas B.° Casey, Director of Public Yorks and Buildings of the State of Illinois at Springfield, Illinois, with the respectful request that said "Four Way Stop Signs" be erected at once at said intersection.
