Ordinance 1955-48A WHEEL TAX ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of
the Village)6f Yorkville, Illinois:
Sec. 1. Definition. Whenever the term "motor vehiclep
is used in this chapter it shall be construed to include auto
mobiles, locomobiles and all vehicles propelled otherwise than by
muscular power., except traction engines and road rollers, the cars
of electric and steam railways, and dither motor vehicles running
only upon rails or tracks, but nothing in this chapter shall be
construed to affect bicycles or tricycles or other vehicles pro-
pelled exclusively by muscular power.
Sea. 2. Licenses. Every owner or operator of a motor
vehicle or motor bicycle who resides within the Village, or whose
principal place of business is located within the Village and
whose motor vehicle or motor vehicles are habitually operated
upon Village streets and garaged or parked within the Village
limits when not in use, shall pay each year to the Clerk a tax
or license fee for the use of each motor vehicle or motor` bicycle
used on any public street or alley in the Village, as is herein-
after provided.
Sec. 3. Fees. The annual fees to be paid for vehicle
licenses shall be as follows: A

Sec. 4. Dealers License. The license plates issued to
dealers in motor vehicles for vehicles held for sale and used

only for demonstrations may be transferred to any other ve-
hicle so held and used by the same dealer; provided that such
dealers shall procure one license for each motor vehicle so
one
held by him at any/time during the year.
Sec. 5. Application--Issuance,. Every owner or
operator of a motor vehicle or motor bicycle desiring a license
for such motor vehicle shall file an application withthe Clerk,
setting forth the name and address of the applicant and a de-
scription of the vehicle for which the license is desired.
Upon payment of the fee herein provided the clerk shall issue
or cause to be issued a license which shall be attested by him,
authorizing the use of such vehicle within the Village until
the expiration of the license.
Sec. 6. Time of Payment-License Year. Such license
fees shall be due and payable annually in advance on the first
day of July of each year and the license shall be for one
year; provided that if the purchase of vehicle is made six
months after the start of the license year, then upon appliaa--
Lion being made to the clerk a license shall be issued for the
remainder of the year upon payment of one half of the fee here-
in required.
Sec. 7. Plates. Each applicant upon payment of the
fee, shall be given a license plate, or windshidd sticker
without charge, of such design and material as may be approved
by the President and Board of Trustees, which plate shall be
fastened in a prominent and visible place on the front of the
vehicle at all times that it is operated in the Village.
Sec. 8. Use of Funds. All revenue derived from such
license fees; except for the cost of issuing the licenses and
plates and collecting fees, shall be kept as a separate fund and
used only for paying the cost of street or alley repairs and

improvements, as is provided by statute.
Sec. 9. Penalty. Any person, firm or corporation
. violating any provision of this chapter shall be fined not
less than five dollars nor more than two hundred dollars for
each offense; and a separate offense shall be deemed committed
on each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues.
Sec. 10. This ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, approval and publication
as required by law. �1,
