Main St was dis oussdd, with no ao#ion taken. Mr. Donald Chase, 406 1. Main it, representing xa m 40 signatorys of g petitL*x to reduce the speed limit one last Main Street from 30 mph to 20 mph was present and read a section from the Illinois Revised Statutes covering the alteration of speed limits within the city. No again requested that the petition presented at the May 14th meeting be acted upon. City Attcrney Rebt C. Ohse explained the procedure the city must follow, primarily, to ssnduet a survey and set standards which can then be applied to all city streets . Any similar problems or future problems would then be measured aeeording to these set stardards, Mayor Coleman directed the Streets & Alleys committee and the Police & Fire committee to conduct a joint investigation of the matter, with the intent to set standards and conduct a survey, In the meantime, saution signs have been ordered and heavy police surveilanse has been ordered. Mr. Charles Whitfield, asked for the city council's reaction and opinions on a proposed housing developement for an area of 72 acres located south of Vanlam en street on the ssz* southeast side of Yorkville and running nearly to At 126, with one acre actually facing Route 126. This is the aillogoly property. 62 acres are within the city limits, and 19 acres in the county presently. The land is not zoned agricultural. Mr Robt Richardd, from Sugar Grove, the developer,was introduced., He has built im ny brick homes in Sugar Grove, tha closest area he has been associated wit h, would be at At 47 and Cannonball Road. Mr. Chas DeGraf: was introduced and answered some quasbions also. It was noted the Planning Commission unanimously reoonmended the project. It was determin6ft that water and sewer systems are adequate to handle the area. A creek runs through the area and will handle surface water. The developement would envision cluster type housing with green areas and parks between clusters . It was thought the homes 'could run between J26,000 and $46,000 price range. Curbing and blacktop streets would be installed. All homes could be of brick exterior. The homes would be built over a period of 3-6 years . These men, presenting their ideas, were now primarily interested in sampling council opinion, wa►ich was generally enthusiastic for the project. W. Ted Wilkinson Jr . 304 1. Orange Street, requested clarification of zoning requiremerts for putting up an unattached garage. He wS,s required by the building inspector to set bask 10 feet. The ordinance was read and understood to require a setback of 10 feet for an attached garage, but only 3 fbet for an unattaebe d Parage or utility building. Alderman TiLomas repeated a problem of lack of keys for the shuffleboard cabinet int the city park. More keys will be made and locations noted when this hasbeen accomplished so more use can be made of this facility, Alderman Thomas reported a couple of playas to reimburse Chief of Poliee Prickett for use of his private automobile for police activity. Mitchell moved, Thomas seeondints, to pay $6.00 plus gas for each occasion. Chlbf Pricketts car isused when the police squad is out of service, and occasionally when extra police help is needed, A request to pay policemen for time spent in court on days off was tabled to check county add other departments methods of handling this matter. Meeting was adjourned, there being no further business.
