Public Safety Minutes 1995 06-12-95 y 4 r AO PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING JUNE 12 , 1995 GAME FARM HOUSE 6 : 40PM Present : Burt Callmer Jim Stafford Kathy Jones Sgt . Ron Diederich 1 . Game Farm House Update Sgt . Diederich explained that the electrical work is completed on the inside of the building, some left to do with outside lighting and the power to the sign. A dumpster has been ordered to be placed on sites Frank William will be starting the construction on Wednesday with the phone installers . Alderman Callmer wants the carpet removed from the stairway and directed Sgt . Diederich to see J. T. Johnson about moving the YPD sign from the existing station to the Game Farm and have the pile of dirt removed from the property. 2 . Hiring of Secretary Sgt . Diederich told the members that three applicants were interviewed for the parttime position . Karen Muzzy, Judy Johnson and Loree Bockman were all well trained in computers, working with the public and all related secretarial skills . Karen Muzzy does have training machine dictation and after discussion the members agreed to hire Karen pending a background investigation and Council approval . 3 . Police Contract Sgt . Diederich explained that the officers will be joining the Fraternal Order of Police and the YPPA will cease to exist . Alderman Callmer asked if they know the raises are done but won ' t be given out until they sign the contract? Sgt . Diederich said the union does not have a problem with the contract but are ironing out some unrelated problems . The union is fully aware that the raises will start after they sign . Alderman Jones asked if the raises would be retroactive, they will be . 4 . Purchase of two portable radios . Sgt . Diederich discussed three bids he had received on the radios . Motorola ' s was $1, 929, Ken Brown was $1, 555 and Tim Van Hale from Communication Direct was $1, 452 . The budgeted amout for the radios was $1, 900 and Alderman Callmer directed Sgt . Diederich to purchase the radios from Communication Direct as he was the low bidder. 5 . Liquor Ordinance Discussion on the total costs for the licenses and the relationship of these costs to the costs the City incurs managing and issueing them. Discussion on Amusement Devices . It was decided to wait until Dan Kramer has a chance to look it over and get back to the committee with recommendations . Meeting was adjourned at 7 : 30pm. Respectfully, Ron Diederich
