Discussion (Identify By Numbers)
1: Lt. Barna was present in place of Chief Graff and advised the
committee that there has not been any activity concerning Meetballs
pertaining to the Fashion Shows nor have they received any citizen
complaints during the past month. A letter from the State Fire
Marshall was presented.
2: The budget report again showed a slight increase in the hours
of overtime over the projected monthly average. Lt. Barna again
reiterated that this is an expectation over the summer months and
is again expected to level off.
3: The monthly reports for June detail:
A. Vehicle Usage
B. Arrests
C. Activity and Man Hours
The reports were approved by the committee and will presented
for full council approval on the meeting of July 22, 1993.
4: Lt. Barna advised that research is still being done on the
ordinances for B.B. guns and animals, as well as the Use of Force
policy. Chief Graff hopes to have further information at the
committee meeting next month.
5: The codification process is still in hold and has not been
sent to the codifier. This is hampering the enforcement level as
( 1 )
many officers are not aware of all of our ordinances. The members
agreed the this issue should be brought up at a committee of the
whole meeting on July 15, 1993.
6: The Neighborhood Watch Meeting is scheduled for July 28, 1993,
at 7: 00 PM at the Beecher Center. Advertising is set to begin July
19, 1993.
7: Officer Barry Groesch was commended for his work at Bristol
Grade School regarding his presentations of awareness and safety
programs. The committee took note of this commendation.
8: Two animal traps have been purchased for use when Yorkville
residents request assistance with animal complaints. Lt. Barna
suggested that the Police Department should assume responsibility
for the setting and pick-up of the traps to assure timely
completions of the service. Committee members felt the this was a
good suggestion as long as street officers are not burdened by this
process. Lt. Barna thought this could be handled as a community
service duty rather than a patrol duty.
9: The Police Cadet Job Description (including duties,
responsibilities and selection process) is drafted and under review
by our attorney, insurance carrier and staff from Waubonsee
Community College. Chairman Johnson asked committee members to also
review it for discussion at our next meeting. It is hopeful that
this can be presented to the full council next month.
10: Lt. Barna advised that the follow up action requested by the
committee regarding the proposed Tobacco Ordinance had been
completed. Support for the ordinance has been received by the
Circuit Court, Juvenile Probation and the School District.
The ordinance will be presented to the council depending on
completion of the final draft by our attorney. -
Committee members strongly agreed that this ordinance be presented
for passage as soon as possible.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday August 9, 1993, at 5:00 PM, at
City Hall.
