DISCUSSION:
1. ELIZABETH STREET AND ROUTE 47 INTERSECTION
A citizen complained about the tight turn coming off of 47 onto Main. Jim Nanninga and J.T.will
look at it.
2. HORTON SIDEWALK
Mr. Horton requested a sidewalk replacement approval for his rental property at 201 West
Main;he obtained two bids,both for 1400.00-the city's half would be$700.00.
3. COUNTY STORM SEWER REPAIR/RICH HART'S PROPERTY
Rich Hart wants the city to waive the sewer hook-up fee ($200.00); a $900.00 Sanitary District
fee in order to get sewer in right away he will pay that right away but would like the$900.00
for the 10 foot easement across his land;the city will install his sewer, 130 foot of sewer, the
pipe is about$5.00 a foot.
This will be brought up a the next C.O.W.meeting.
J.T.will be asking for an easement from the county.
4. EASEMENT BEHIND MIDAS
Easement runs from the Midas/Car Star property edge all the way down to our manhole and just
past that manhole. This has nothing to do with the Hatcher's coming in from the other way.
J.T. did approach Hatchers and told them they were going to have to pay the money for
easement and also told them that the city would take that sewer over once they get it all paid
for, after pay for it,if they want to sign it over to the city, the city would then maintain it.
Fisher wants$3,000.00 for easement. It is a 10 foot strip 3/4 along the back of the property.
5. SCHNEIDER PROPERTY
John Schneider has a duplex that has two trees that need to come down, either on his duplex or
the house next to him. He would like Van Emmon Street vacated, and he would pay for the
removal of the trees.
We either need to remove the trees or vacate Van Emmon Street.
This needs to be brought up at the Committee Meeting of the Whole.
6. SEWER ROOT CUTTER COST
Miff Mikelson researched the root cutters. He wants a heavy duty ring style root cutter. Miff
obtained three bids, two of which were ring style cutters,$1,475.00 for Sewer Equipment
Company of America; $1,455.00 from Sreco. This would come out of the sewer maintenance
account.
7. CITY LOTS
Jim Olson has informed J.T.that there are three 12,000 square foot lots across the front of the
city property on Route 47. The house, another lot north and another lot south on 12,000 square
foot lots. One of the lots is a septic field,it would cost about$125.00 per linear foot to bore an
8"pipe under Route 47,which comes to 83 foot,or$11,000.00. J.T. said he though the lots
would sell for about$40,000.00 each. This will be brought to the C.O.W.meeting.
8. STREET LIGHTS AT COUNTRYSIDE CENTER
J.T.has located for spots four street lights, the other three will be long runs. Something we can
work on this winter is securing easements on side lots. In 1986 there were going to be 16
intersections,30 foot poles,10 foot brackets for$48,000.00;$35,200.00 to do concrete poles;and
$35,200.00 to do refurbished steel poles, 14 coach lights at 14 foot height scattered every 200
feet which was another proposal at$1,600.00 per pole. The intersections are: Anderson at
West Kendall, Mulhern at East Kendall, Strawberry and West Kendall, and Blackberry and
West Kendall.
It was recommended that J.T. talk to the alderman from Ward 4 and show them where four
would be placed and ask for their input on placing the other three. It was suggested that J.T.
talk to Tony about problem areas.
9. 10%FEE CHARGE FOR MICCI
J.T.spoke with Judy Bell and thinks that the 10% is the way to go. It is actually a bonus to us.
Almost all single family home permits are costing$1,000.00,so that is$100.00 for us,before we
were getting$50.00. Plus the little jobs like siding, etc.,we got nothing before, now we will get
something.
10. VAN EMMON STREET SIGNS
The crew put them up today.
11. ROAD PROBLEMS
There is achuck hole on McHugh and a dip that is forming an Spring Street.
