ZBA Minutes 1996 02-20-96 MINUTES OF THE SIGN REVIEW BOARD OF THE UNITED CITY OF THE VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE KENDALL COUNTY, ILLINOIS FEBRUARY 20, 1996 7:00 P.M. The February meeting of the Sign Review Board was called to order by Chairman Gary Rice. Roll Call: Members Present: Candi Foringer Gary Rice Joel Ottosen Absent: Howard Manthei Janet Dhuse Others Present: City Building Inspectors Bill Dettmer and Barbara Dettmer. Chairman Rice explained that this was the first formal meeting of the Sign Review Board He briefly described its role. Bill Dettmer said the first item on the agenda was an appeal by Mr. Kishorbhai D. Patel. Mr. Patel currently owns the new Super 8 Motel in Yorkville. His appeal is to an order by the Building Inspector's Office. He had requested an off-premise sign. The sign had been denied by the City of Yorkville as the Sign Ordinance does not allow them. Bill and Barb Dettmer brought pictures of the area of where the sign would be placed. Mr. Dettmer wanted it on the record that at this point in the meeting, he would only be responding to questions asked and be an enforcing officer. Barb Dettmer then read the three Sections of Law that pertain to Mr. Patel's appeal. Mr. Ed Hartsell of Express Signs represented Mr. Patel at this meeting. He explained that Mr. Patel had a hardship with the location of his business. They have a shared driveway with Burger King and have no road frontage on Route 34 or Route 47. He presented a letter from Burger King that stated they have permission to put a directional sign on their property. They are asking for a 25' S.F. sign with an overall height of eight feet. Mainly they needed a directional sign to get the people off Route 47 to the motel. 1 Joel Ottosen asked Mr. Hartsell if the eight-feet height was exact. Mr. Hartsell said yes, it was what Burger King wanted so their sign would not be blocked. Discussion took place as the pictures were passed Bill Dettmer said it would be placed so the traffic view would not be obstructed. Joel Ottosen made the motion to approve the variance. Candi Foringer seconded. Chairman Rice said he felt the sign was needed since they were landlocked. He felt the height was agreeable, especially when compared to the other signs. Roll Call Vote: Joel Ottosen - Yes Gary Rice - Yes Candi Foringer - Yes Motion passed 3-0. Chairman Rice said the next step would be to make their recommendations to the City Council. Mr. Hartsell and Mr. Patel would be sent a letter of the meeting locations and their dates. Mr. Rice asked for any additional business.
