Park Board Minutes 2002 11-18-02 (Burbach Aquatic Planning Meeting) T ®VED Yorkville Parks &Recreation Burbach Aquatic Planning Workshop Minutes November 18, 2002 Call to Order- Chris Rollins called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Roll Call - Present: Bill Wedge, Ken Koch, Dave Cathey, Chris,Rollins Absent: Lisa Scherer Staff in Attendance: Dan Hebreard, Laura Brown Guests and/or City Officials— Sara Stotmeister, Burbach Aquatics Tony Scott, Kendall County Recorder Sara Stotmeister from Burbach Aquatics disseminated the market and sizing information that Burbach completed of surrounding communities. This study is used to evaluate the impact and need for a pool in Yorkville and the surrounding area. Sara reviewed the information with the Park Board. Sara indicated that based on the current population, the size pool needed for Yorkville would be 12,677 square feet. This figure factors in an impact reduction from surrounding communities' pools and a percentage of use by Yorkville residents. Five communities were included in the surrounding area comparisons. Chris Rollins suggested looking at Fox Valley YMCA in Plano and including them in the comparison. Bill Wedge suggested including Club 47's pool also. Sara will re-look at the comparison information. She also concluded that the current impact study and suggested pool size would not change much with the growth that Yorkville is receiving. In addition, Burbach projected the need for a pool in the year 2027 would be 30,962 square feet. The comments from the Park Board included the need to begin planning a pool that would accommodate the needs of the community in 3-5 years also. Sara suggested looking at building a 15,000 square foot pool now and than in 5-10 years another pool at the opposite side of the city of about the same size. Sara discussed a need for a combination of a water park, pool and diving area. She then asked for suggestions from the staff and park board on size of pool, features, and amenities they would like to see in a community pool. She will develop conceptual drawings for the next meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m. following a motion by Koch, seconded by Wedge. t Respectfully Submitted, Laura J. Brown Recording Secretary Next planning workshop 6:00 p.m. December 4, 2002 in the Austin Room of the Beecher Community Building.
