Park Board Minutes 1995 08-16-95 PARK BOARD MEETING
August 16, 1995
Members Present : Sue Swithin, Steve Bridge, Dave Dockstader.
From the City, was Scott Sleezer, From the Rec. Dept . was Ann
Scholl and Becky Johnson. Art Prochaska, City Alderman, Tony
Graff. and Barry Groesch from the Police Dept. Guest, Jeff. Palmquist
from Lannert Group, Lorraine and Norman Nelson and Peggy Sleezer.
Sue called the meeting to order at 7: 10p.m.
Sue told the Board that she received a letter of resignation
from Cindy Davidson. Sue is to give the letter to Mayor Bob Johnson.
Scott Sleezer suggested that Mr. Bradstreet take Cindy' s place.
Peggy Sleezer was introduced, she and the Nelsons wanted to talk
about getting a Christian Youth Group started for the whole Kendall
Co. area to help troubled teens get back on their feet and have
a place for them to meet . Chief Graff offered to lielp them and
have them get in touch with Human Services. The concerns are
for the ages 12-15. They would like to see hands on work program
especially for boys to learn some skills. Tony suggested to talk
with the Clergy Assoc. with Joy Baumgartner from the Yorkville
Congregational Church. Art P. suggested donated land for gardening.
Jeff. Palmquist gave his presentation on Park Classification for
local developed open space for Yorkville. He did up a summary
of recomendation sheet for the Board, which they agreed on. Would
like to see a Community Park in the future around Bristol Ridge
Rd.. and Rt 34 area. And a Park developed South of town. Jeff
would like to see a Committee formed to decide and dicuss future
parks.
Mayor Bob Johnson asked Art P. to read a letter given to him
from a child who wants a playground put in at Countryside. Sue
S.. will respond to the letter.
The City has hired someone to do Preliminary layout for Riverf.ront
improvement. Would like to see a Bike Path go from Oswego to
Silverspring State Park. Sue is to find people to represent a
Riverf. ront Committee.
Steve motioned to approve old minutes . Dave D. seconed after
telling us there was a correction in the minutes about Dave Dockstader
was not at the last meeting but that Dave Sclimelzle was.
Barry Groesch said that lie would see if Kiwanis would donate
a park bench for Cobb Park. Scott would like to put in basketball
courts, slide and merry-go-round there at the park.
Barry also mentioned lie would like to see Jaycee Pond cleaned
tip maybe a building put there for a place for teens to go. Make
it a positive place for teen to hang out at.

Scott said that sod has been put in at the playground at Beecher.
Scott is to call Fox Valley Park Dist. to order 12 garbage cans.
Discussion on Beecher landscaping of the four corners of the
building. Scott suggested Perrinals. Steve B. disagreed because
of the maintance having to keep it weeded. He would like to see
evergreen or buslies. The Board voted to spend $1100 on the four
corners.
Scott would like a new sign made for his office in the old police
dept. building. People are thinking lie is part of Freeman' s.
Board said for him to go to Phoenix Sign and have one made for
Park Maintance.
Scott would like the police to lielp keep the park by the damn
cleaned tip by enforcing the park ordinance rules. Signs should
be put tip for No Alcohol and No Fires in the park. Tony said
lie could make it a beat patrol .
There was a suggestion on having a Pavillon made for Beecher
Park.
Scott brought a drawing of the Beecher Park to discuss the layout
of the landscaping and what kind of trees they would want. Steve
suggested Evergreens at one corner of the Park and Evergreens
by the Sign that will be put there. Scott thinks that there is
still a possibility to have a ice skating rink in the winter.
Art P. would like to see Scott take over the maintance of the
Ball fields. Get a set program on the tip keep and care of it
then with a written letter on how it is done turned over to Brian
DeBolt during the school season. Scott is to come back next meeting
with a list of what should be done.
Scott also had a drawing for Prairie Park on landscaping. Steve
would like to see two sides of Park with same type of trees lining
it. Art suggested two different types alternating trees. And
then as mixture of trees at one end.
People who would like to buy or sponsor a tree would have their
names by it and put in the Parks.
Steve brought two different kinds of T-shirts for ideas for the
shirts they would like made tip saying Parks and Rec. Dept. to
be sold. They like the lighter grey with red lettering.
Ann passed out the new bill list . Steve motioned to pay them
Sue seconded. all yes favor.
Ann let the Board know about the sign tip for Soccer. There was 47
signed tip. ( 32) 4-5yrs old ( 11 ) 6-7-8 yr olds, (4) 9-10-11 yr olds.

She told them of Mike Bently who would like to Coach the Soccer
Program. He has 10 yrs experience. The Board agreed to hire him.
$200 for 7wks.
There was discussion as to what equip. to buy. Ann was to call
Mike about what we would need. They would use cones for boundries
and flags for goals. They will have T-shirts and use nylon mesh
pennies to divide team. Dave D. motioned to allow Rec. Dept .
to spend up to not to exceed $750 for equip. Steve seconded all
yes favor.
The Rec. Dept. needed to call Fox Valley Park Dist . or Oswego
to see what they used for Goals. Sue thought that Scott could
get some kindof plumbing pipes and make them according to size.
Ann told Board about hiring a new Evening Step Instructor to
replace Mary Stoner.
Ann recieved a call from a person about a tread mill. The Board
didn ' t want us to accept it because of the liability.
There was a discussion on a After School Program. Ann told the
Board about Pat Usry wanting to do. the program. It will be call
Busy Bee ' s, 3 days a week Pion. - Wed. - Fri . 1-4p.m. We must
add to our forms who will pick up the child. Ann said that we
need to get more equipment, games, etc. to run the program, that
we are very limited as to what we can offer. Dave D. motioned
to spend $1000 Steve seconded and all yes favor, to get more
equip. and etc.
Sue told Scott that the Rec. Dept needs more storage space. Sue
is going to Pamida and Wal-Mart to see if they will donate Videos
to help get our After School Program going.
Ann gave the dates to Chief. Graff on the dances that the Rec.
Dept has after the home football games. She told him that she
would like them to stay until the kids have gone. Tony said that
their would be two officers present. The same two from the game.
Barry Groesch suggested that we do a Jr. High teen dance one
a month. Hours 7-9. Ann will look into the availability of the
Perkins room.
Sue brought in a list of different computer and printer with
prices for the Board to look at. She thought the printer from
Office Max was a good deal. It ' s a HP 660c Inkjet Color Printer.

She feels this will work with the city computers just fine.
Steve wants to know what fee is for line hook up. Sue is to talk
to the man who would hook them up.
The Board agreed to spend $2500 for computer and printer not to exceed.
Meeting was Adjourned by Sue at 12 : 00 a.m.
