This project has seen several false starts over the past two years due to either the lack of money or unavailable equipment. We entered into the project, again, about one month ago, feeling we would have the funds to complete the project. Due to other unexpected costs in other projects we might have to put the project on hold again. The equipment is available at this time (special lighting fixtures for such a project) and our funds are short. We will be lighting the remaining three courts and upgrading the lights on the other courts. We also want to upgrade the lighting controls which will turn the lights on and off on a timer (push button lighting control). We have had all the preliminary work completed for the project and are waiting to begin. The overall project will cost us between$12,000 and$15,000. The School District has also taken over the responsibility for the upkeep maintenance and lighting costs from the city as of last summer. The School District completely refinished all the courts last summer. The courts are used by hundreds of students and citizens from March to October each year. In fact, I believe the courts are used by more people than some of our other athletic facilities. I realize that this is somewhat of a short notice, but time is of the essence if the project is to be completed this year. I would appreciate it if you would approach the Park Department Board on our behalf and ask them to help us complete the project with a contribution of$7000.00. Sincerely, Dr. Thomas D. Engler Superintendent of Schools
