Members absent: none.
Bills presented for approval by Stormy Gray . Roll call, unanimous aye .
Stormy asked board for preapproval of some monies to be spent during
the next couple of months . This if for; referees for the men's basketball
league. They like to be paid the day they do their refereeing. This
wi116e $90. 00 per game. Board voted unanimously for approval.
Theresa Peters , on of the softball coaches is moving away and Stormy
asked for a $25. 00 gift certificate to be given to Mrs . Peters in
recognition of the help she provided during the year. Board voted
in favor unanimously .
Finally, Stormy asked for pre-approval of money to be spent on tickets
for Chicago Blackhawk games . The tickets have to be purchased well in
advance this year since the team is doing so well. The board voted and
approved unanimously that STormy be able to spend up to $400. 00 ( 40 tickets )
for each game that she is able to get tickets for. December 28th being one
of the games , and all but 6 tickets are sold at this time , with many
more people asking for tickets than she has ordered.
Stormy has asked the Board to consider adding another telephone line
to the Recreation Department. One line is not enough to take all the
registrations , schedule events and activities , process information , etc.
Stormy is still working on the pop/juice machine machine for the
building. She is also looking into a copy machine for the Rec. Dept.
since it is quite inconvenient to run to the City offices or the
Library for copies .

Gary Bown reminded the Board to begin work on their 1990 budget ,
the preliminary is due February 1 , 1990.
Mr. Bown also informed the Board that there are trees around the
Library, which were planted years ago by the Women ' s Club , specifically
for use by the Park Board when the trees were mature enough to be moved.
The trees are ready now, and with the rearrangement of the ball diamonds
and Shoestring Park, this is an ideal time to plan for the trees
to be moved as well.
Stormy said she has receied several complaints about the maintenance ,
or rather lack thereof , of the baseball fields . They 're shabby.
Steve Bridge said thet we will have to be more specific as to our needs
for the maintenance of the fields when we tell the City what we want
them to do as far asmowing, dragging, watering, clean-up , eCi .
Apparently, Brent Equinski, ones he Little League coaches has offered his
groups services in a effort to make and keep the fields up to snuff.
Steve directed Dave Schmelzle to get in contact with the proper School
official to see if we couldn' t use or have them use their special mowing
equipment on the ball diamonds . The Board realizes that they will have
to increase the fees in order to get the fields looking good and keep
them that way.
Steve Bridge said that we will have to get Shoestring Park moved EARLY in the
spring and that the City is still more than willing to pull everything up
for us , but that we will have to get some folks together to get things
planted back in the ground in their new location, which Steve suggested
be west of the present volley ball court. He made a motion as such, which
Dave S. seconded and the Board .passed unanimously.
Stormy again mentioned the fact that there probably should be a
concession stand built near the ball diamondsisince there is such a great
demand for food and drinks during ball games. She and Ann have no
intention of hauling food and pop in and out for each game this coming
season since it is so difficult to schlep it all back and forth as
well as being time consuming.
Stormy mentioned that there is a real problem/conflict with the
room rentals . The City controls the appointment book for room
rentals. The Recreation Dept . runs classes on 6 to 8 week spans
and they do not schedule the room use much before they know they have
the classes filled. Meanwhile, the City has scheduled a room or
rooms up to a year in advanceland then when the Rec. Dept . begins
a classithere may be something else going on in that room.
This is good for the City and the Beecher Building, the place is being
utilized to it 's fullest and even beyond occasionally. But , the Rec .
Dept. is growing and it will be needing more and more class space.
Therefore , Stormy is to find out from the Schools , if the Rec. Dept.
could rent space from them for classes. Dave Schmelzle will also look into this,
7 :45 p.m. Mayor Davidson arrived.
The Mayor said that sewer and water will be run through the present
field east of the Beecher building and the ground restored by April 1 , 1990.
Next meeting will be on December 11 , 1989 at 7: 00 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 8 : 40 p.m. .
Respectfully , /
