Park Commission Minutes 1978 05-16-78 14144:0't—E`S OF THE PARK COMMISSION . MEF.TING HELD AT CITY HALL ON MAY 16 ,
.Th=e-:�.m=eeting was called to. order at 7 : 10 P . M . Present were Joyce Ward ,
R4-* .Dalton and Betty Huston. Mark Johnson arrived late and Dick Walker
was absent .
Ralph Johnson and James Wilhelmi from the Yorkville JayCees were
present . They are trying to promote the use of the JayCee Park and
asked how the Park Commission could help. - Discuss ion followed . Joyce
Ward will talk to the City, ,Council ' s Tree & Park Chairman , Dan Hanback ,
to. se.e how this should be follow" up. The Jaycees are interested in
developing the park better by possibly adding a softball field ,
playground , stock the pond and g-etting the park put on the City -anap
in the City book :' The committee felt the Park could be of use
and hopes the City can help them out too . The Committee will
try to hold an event or so there to acquaint t#� tity with the park.
The organization only has about 25 active membe'-s now so t�h4y need more
support to get the projects done .
The minutes were corrected . as follows :

OLD BUSINESS - Discussion on the open gym was lveld and it was decided
this will be a winter activity .
Joyce Ward brought us the joining of the National Recreation E Park
Association.. All thought it would be good . Rick ,wil]. look it ';pver
'and fill out the form.
The Jamboree wi l l be held June 3 , 1978 and Rick Dal toh needs .:.more
helpers . The committee members will try to get helpers there Rick
Dalton said 26 had signed up.

This brings the total to date to 504 having signed uV for summer
programs and the registration forms are still coming in .
The Commission has ordered 200 T-shirts and 154 indiviOuals ••have
paid for them.. The Commission feels the rest will b,& sold .
Rick Dalton will order insurance .
Rick Dalton brought the need for 2 ,more coaches In the older
division of girls softball . The Commission -gave 'RUck same "possibilities
to call .
.$3 , 148. 63 in fees have been collected . (The summer budget predicted
$2 ,205 . 00 . ) Out of this will come the- costs of booklets , equipment , '
insurance , rental and instructors fees ..

Rick Dal'to'n `wi11 check on tennis court signs . Aldermen each
had talked to : Rick about this . Rick will talk to the 'high school ,
Industrial Arts teacher to see if they can work something out .
Rick Dalton read the -list o , equipment -we w1 1 1 need to start the
summer programs . . It totaled $3,64 . 20 . The commission agreed to have
this ordered so it would be here on time .
Rick Dalton stated there seems to be an interest in a crafts class
for the younger children . Discussion followed and several names`. ,
were given to Rick to contact about teaching this .
A general discussion of the programs followed .
The next meeting will be June 20 ,1978 at 7 :00 P . M . at City Hall .
The meeting was adjourned at 8 : 35 P .M .
