Committee Reports:
City Liaison Report: None
Mayor's Report: The Senior Advisory Committee was not approved by the Council.
There was some discussion on this. Rose thought there should be a sub committee, but others felt
there were too many committees already and if there was a senior committee others may want a
middle age or youth committee.
There had been previous discussion on a youth committee, but the question was what projects
would we do. The Mayor stated that there is a Wellness Committee that this year did Citizen
Awards for those that met the Character Counts pillars. Possibly these awards could be done by age
groups, or do a Citizen of the Year award.
There was discussion on what other projects could be done. Would a survey of youth/seniors be
possible to find out what they feel is needed in Yorkville?
Madonna asked if surveys could be handed out at the Mayor's Coffee meetings, but there are not
enough who attend these to make a representative count. Other suggestions for a survey placement
would be in the Newsletter, or at the Riverfront Festival, with boxes for dropping replies in various
places, such as the Post Office, American Legion, Beecher Center, etc.
Sylvia said that a youth survey was done by Sue at the Park District, looking for ideas from the
teens. She suggested that our role is looking for ideas and then making a recommendation to the
City Council as to what should be done. The 170'h Anniversary of Yorkville is this year and we
could do something in conjunction with that.
City Council Report: Rose reported on the discussion on the Senior Committee and that Oswego
has a Senior Committee that works well and has even received grants.
Alderman Wolfer asked how much is already being handed by the services now located in the
Beecher Center. He feels the Council needs more information on what is now available and what is
needed.
There was some discussion on what services are available and the prospect of Del Webb coming in
and bringing more seniors, many of whom may need services in the coming years.
Sylvia asked how this pertains to HRC and how the committee can help. We already look at a lot
Page 2 HRC—January, 2006
of things, such as youth problems and schools, and we need some balance.
Tom made a recommendation to investigate setting up a senior and/or youth committee.
Cecelia asked what the focus of the HRC was.
Sylvia commented that seniors get out to vote, and with the school referendum coming up,the
schools are overcrowded now. We need to think about youth, and the seniors. A survey that
included questions on both would help.
Madonna asked if Aldermen could have meetings with the people in their area, like a coffee,to get
opinions.
Sylvia suggested promoting the survey by putting articles in the newspaper prior to the newsletter
coming out, with the idea that this is `your' community. We need input from all members of the
community.
Dean asked if this would be one committee and an on-going one.
Sylvia suggested that at the next meeting we discuss whether we do a recommendation to form a
senior committee and do a survey for needs.

Shannon Range photography and a Life Line Health screening flyer were presented. Rose asked if
the Jellystone brochure had received approval. It had in the past. Tom's letter to be sent to those
who were approved previously will be e-mailed to Glory Spies to send out. Sylvia will e-mail the
master approved list. Madonna will help to set up the master list. On the two presented, Lorene
made a motion to accept, Tom seconded. Approved. Since the Life Line flyer is for a screening that
will be held on January 24th, it will just be placed temporarily until that date. Also, Tom will contact
River Heights Veterinary Clinic to tell them their brochure needs to be folded as a tri-fold to fit into
the slots on the board. It was suggested that in the letter that the information on the brochures
needing to be a tri-fold be included.
Historical Street Names
Several submissions were received in response to requests for names for consideration. These will
be reviewed and suggestions made at the next meeting. Madonna asked if we are looking for
individuals names, or could names for police dogs be included. She also related that the activity
director at Hillside said she had too many things to do to add getting information on people for
street naming consideration, and because of the privacy act she could not give Madonna names of
people to contact.
Minutes were reviewed. Madonna made a motion to accept, Lorene seconded. Accepted
NEW BUSINESS
Time was short, discussion on plan for Historical Street names will be done at next meeting.
ADDITIONAL BUSINESS
Tom made a motion to adjourn Madonna seconded. Meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.

REPORT ON OTHER SENIOR COMMITTEES
OSWEGO
Has a Committee that is not a direct part of the Village. They get no funding, but have a Liaison that
reports to the Village elected officials on their meetings. They recently received a grant to do a survey
for transportation. This survey is now in the process of being presented to the Village, and will also be
used by the Kendall Senior Providers who are working with the County on connecting with either
Grundy or DeKalb County on getting transportation for Kendall County. Members are from the
community and Village.
AURORA TOWNSHIP
This is a group that is mandated by the Township, with membership from the public and agencies and
organizations that provide services/programs for seniors. There is no funding from the Township
directly, however, there is a Youth& Senior Foundation that raises funds through golf outings, etc. It
is a 5016 organization and helps fund the TRIAD picnic for seniors each year. They also work with
the Dial-A-Ride program and Youth Commission to arrange snow shoveling and summer mowing/yard
work for seniors. An employee of the Township reports on the meetings to the Township. They have
also been working on the Elder Friendly Community for Aurora.
GENEVA
They have three different programs for seniors. They are part of TRIAD and also partners with Delnor
Hospital fitness programs. Most of their programs for seniors are educational. On Feb. 8a', the Police
Department held a meeting to discuss safety issues for seniors. The Geneva Police Dept. has a Senior
Care program, with a trained `senior' officer. This program offers seniors the opportunity to sign up to
list any physical problems they may have and a list of relatives to contact should there be a problem
that 911 responds to. There is no funding. A Senior Center is being remodeled in Wheeler Park—it has
been an on-going project for over 2 years, but is nearing completion. Geneva Police Dept. also puts out
an annual "Senior Citizens Resource Guide."
ST CHARLES & BATAVIA
Neither have any specific program. Seniors who call with problems are referred to Senior Services
Associates, Inc., hotline number.
MC HENRY
The Township of McHenry has a Senior Advisory Committee. They do not have a budget. Funding for
senior activities and programs is in the McHenry Township budget. They put out a quarterly newsletter
listing all of the programs they provide at the McHenry Township Senior Center, including dance,
computer, exercise, etc. classes. Fees are paid for these classes. They hold parties, such as for St.
Patrick's Day, Octoberfest, where they charge a nominal fee, then subsidize the balance. They also
hold an annual meeting and a Senior Fair annually. The Committee, appointed by the Township
Supervisor, is made up of seniors and members from organizations serving seniors. Reports on
activities are given by a Township employee on the activities at the Senior Center, but not a report on
the Senior Advisory Committee.

Re: Fox Hill,Unit 7—Lift Station
Dear Joe,
I am in receipt of your letter dated August 23,2006.We are aware that the list station has been
installed for 18 months. However we don't feel that any components of the lift station have
suffered due to not being in a"controlled environment".They are in the same environment that
they will be for the duration of their use. S&K Excavating installed the lift station in March of
2005 and Phillips Electric completed the original electrical work for the lift station in May of
2005. We then had to wait on Corn Ed to run electrical service to the lift station and liven it. We
then asked for the City to conduct an electrical inspection so we could do the start up of the lift
station.
The City of Yorkville's electrical inspector that had conducted the original inspection in
December of 2005 required us to have an electrical component"custom"manufactured. Our
electrical contractor(Phillips Electric)has completed the electrical installation on many lift
stations and has never heard of this type of component nor have they ever been required to have
this type of part as part of a lift station.Phillips ordered the part in January of 2006.The special
ordered part took about four months to manufacture and ship out.We had to have Com Ed come
back out to the site to disconnect the power before our electrician could proceed with the
installation of the new parts.Phillips installed the new meter socket in April of 2006.To have
this part installed cost us an additional$3,647.00 on top of the approximate$15,000 we paid for
the original electrical work done at the lift station.
Currently we are waiting for Nicor Gas to run a service line to the back-up generator.I was
unaware that the back-up generator was fueled by natural gas and not diesel.Otherwise this step
would have been done months ago.
You stated that we`will arrange for repairs to the lift station from now until acceptance by the
City that may be attributable to the extended down time". Wouldn't we be responsible for the
necessary repairs to the lift station anyway,no matter if they were caused by the idle time or not?
If there are any specific concerns that you have regarding the lift station installation or any other
questions that I can help you with do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
'IGLJ
