Report of the Librarian
In December 4,787 items were checked out. This is down by 164 items from last year.
We added 60 new patrons, 477 new books/items.
Michele showed everyone the Adult reading club fliers. There are book clubs at the
library for kids in second grade all the way up to adults.
The library was very crowded when Mr. and Mrs. Claus were here. In fact there were too
many people in the library. Maybe we should not have this event again until our new
library is open.
Refreshments were served over the holidays, Hot cider and coffee cake or cookies all
week.
A$100 memorial was made for Jean Budd Frank.
Since the taxes were raised for the citizens of Yorkville, the non-resident subscription fee
will need to be raised. Michelle asked when the tax change will take effect and about
how much will it be so she can let people know of the change.
Michelle suggested that everyone should go see Plano Libraries' new addition now that it
is done. They are also using a radio frequency check out system that automatically
checks the books in when they are returned into the book return. They will have their
ribbon cutting ceremony January 23`d at 1 p.m. followed by an Open House until 3 p.m.
Michelle has finished the Weed &Feed Grant the Library received. 208 books were
weeded out and 286 updated books were bought.
There is a new librarian. Peggy Wilkinson works 13 hours a week at $7.50 an hour.
The library system that Yorkville belongs to, sent over copies of a book to be passed out.
It is a program they are doing called 1 book, 1 system. Michelle has been passing them
out to the staff, the board members, and to the people in the book clubs. When you are
done reading it you are supposed to pass it on to another person.
Sandy Lindblom had a question about how it was decided when a book should be weeded
out. A book with a memorial plate was accidentally put on the sale shelf. Michelle said
she tries to discreetly discard the book if it has a bookplate in it, so no one's feelings get
hurt.
City Council Liaison/Human Resource
Richard Sticka stated that he had nothing to add. Except that Plainfield has a Yas
development, the same company that Yorkville has hired to plan the development of
Yorkville.

Unfinished Business
• Library Addition—The Fire Suppression Engineer wants a hydrant flow test
before we start building. We have obtained a quote from Matt Falco at BCS from
Nelson Fire Protection for$560. There was discussion that we have been trying to
see if we could use the information the school may have received if they had this
done before they built the school. So far there has been no information of this
type available. Russ Walter made a motion to allow Nelson Fire Protection to
perform the flow test for $560. Carol LaChance seconded the motion. All moved
to pass with a roll call vote. The motion carried.
