UPDATE
Chairman Scheffrahn announced there had been a message from Mr. Cordogan stating he would
not be able to attend.
Additionally, Chairman Scheffrahn stated that Carol Kaiser-Frederick has resigned due to
moving her business outside of Yorkville. The City would therefore seek another business
candidate to fill this opening for Spring.
Chairman Scheffrahn gave re-cap of what has transpired since the last meeting, along with the
current status of each of the Facade Program award winners.
FREEMAN'S SPORTS REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF AWARD PAYMENT
Chairman Scheffrahn stated that Freeman's has completed their work and have requested final
review and award payment. Invoices submitted by Freeman's reflected a total of$19,900. and of
those $10,752.55 were for eligible expenses. Their grant amount was for 50%, not to exceed
5400. A payment for 50% of eligible costs would be in the amount of$5376.28.
Mr. Dettmer stated they have concluded the inspection process at Freeman's Sports, and
Freeman's has completed what they were supposed to do. The Building Department has issued
their final approval on the work.
A motion was made by Johanna Byram and seconded by Joyce Barrett to accept the new Facade
work at Freeman Sports and award payment in the amount of$5376.28. On a voice vote all
members present voting aye. Motion carried.
ST. JOSEPH CABINET REQUEST FOR FACADE CHANGE
Mr. Millen, owner of St. Joseph Cabinet Company stated that they had promised to paint the
facade a butter cream color, per the terms of their proposal and approval of same, but because so
many people have stopped by and made comments on how nice the natural wood looks, they

would like permission to leave the wood natural and only clear coat it to protect it from the
weather. Mr. Millen stated that with truck traffic on Bridge street they also thought the butter
cream color could start to look dirty pretty fast
Mr. Millen showed the committee one of the lighting fixtures that will soon be installed on the
new facade, and stated that all the rest of the work would be finished soon per their agreement
and that they expect to finish under budget.
Ms. Byram stated that the painted look was very Victorian and she preferred that look to the
natural.
Ms. Barrett stated she liked the natural look, and felt it was acceptable to be left that way.
Alderwoman Burd stated she felt is would be a shame to cover the natural wood with paint, and
that it could always be painted in the future if it needed it.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated the natural wood is attractive, but he wonders how purist the
committee should be on this issue.
Mr. Millen stated they would have planter boxes, but had changed their mind on the idea of
including a coffee shop with their cabinet showroom, as some of their sales representatives were
concerned with the coffee aspect becoming too demanding. Mr. Millen stated that they did have
a wonderful fully functioning kitchen and though that some people might want to use this for
showers, parties or something like that, and that would promote his kitchen cabinets.
Ms. Barrett motioned and Ms. Byram seconded a motion to accept leaving the new wood facade
at t. Joseph Cabinets natural and not require Mr. Millen to paint it as previously agreed. On a
voice vote all present voting aye. Motion carried.
BRIDGE STREET CAFE UPDATE
Chairman Scheffrahn stated that Bridge Street Cage was not quite finished with the work on their
new facade, as they are waiting for delivery of the new lighting.
A Facade Committee meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, August 23, 2000 as Bridge Street
cafe and St. Joseph Cabinet Company both are expected to be ready for final inspections and
issuance of payments.

To the( Board of the(United City of Yorkville,
When we submitted the proposed improvements for the facade of the building, located
at 220 So. ( Bridge Street, we suggested painting the(Dictorian clap—board siding a
butter cream"color. (However, after seeing the beautiful wood color of the siding, we
are of the mind to put a clear protective sealant on it that will protect and retain the
natural wood color. This fetter is to inform and request permission from the board on
this amended proposal.
