FOX FLOORING PRESENTATION& DETERMINATION OF ELIGIBILITY
Bill Hasselbring verbally presented his concept for the renovation of 107 S. Bridge Street for Fox
Flooring along with application of the Facade Program.
Mr. Hasselbring stated they would remove the debris around the building, power wash the
building, paint 3 colors which would be Carrington Beige, Sag Harbor Gray, and Van Dusen
Blue, they will install new doors and windows, and add landscaping.
Alderwoman Burd asked what type of windows they planned to install.
Mr. Hasselbring stated they would be plate glass, and they would replace the area above it as
well.
Alderwoman Burd asked if they would have an awning.
Mr. Hasselbring stated no, maybe later when they can afford to do more. He expects the exterior
and windows to be $12,500. and painting to be $13,000.
Chairman Scheffrahn asked what they were finding under the old facade.
Mr. Hasselbring stated there is ornate steel and they hope to be able to leave it exposed if they
can. They plan to start work next week, however the doors are back ordered.
Mr. Smith stated it is a nice old building and there should be a lot that they can do with it.
Mr. Hasselbring stated the paint is imbedded into the brick.
Mayor Prochaska asked if the ornate metal around the doors was just on one side.
Mr. Hasselbring stated if it is two sided they will leave it exposed if one sided they can't. They
won't know till the rest is torn out.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated there is an increase access to this area.
1
Mayor Prochaska stated they have not seen the IDOT plan for route #47 yet,but it is on the five
year plan starting with land acquisitions. When finished there will be a walkway at Van Emmon
and planters in the median.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated that the committee would work with Mr. Hasselbring, and asked
when he planned on being able to paint.
Mr. Hasselbring stated June weather permitting.
Chairman Scheffrahn asked it there were any additional questions.
Mr. Cordogan stated that his description fits the spirit of what we are looking for it the painting
color scheme is appropriate to pull it off, and asked if the committee had any requirements for
multiple bids.
Mr. Hasselbring stated he has multiple bids.
Mayor Prochaska stated the committee will look at the project.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated that this is improvement as opposed to maintenance, and Mr.
Dettmer will review bills submitted before payment is allocated. This does meet the intent and
will help to encourage improvement downtown.
Mr. Dettmer stated the program does call for 2 bids.
Mayor Prochaska stated they bring the invoices that are paid. This does hit a gray area. The
building owner gets the grant, we have Mr. Hasselbring here to review the prices and estimates to
keep it in line. A 1890's look needs to be preserved.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated the signage requires some creativity.
Mr. Hasselbring stated that if there was a massive awning there it would answer the signage
question too.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated they needed a motion. This will give Mr. Dettmer an opportunity to
review what has been done, and we can re-convene.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated they needed a motion for eligibility.
Mr. Cordogan motioned and Mr. Smith seconded to award eligibility.
Clerk Marker called the roll: Mr. Cordogan-yes, Mr. Smith-yes, Chairman Scheffrahn-yes.
Motion carried.
2
Chairman Scheffrahn asked for a time frame for photos, and to give Mr. Dettmer a chance to
review paint chips etc.
Mr. Hasselbring stated he has taken photos throughout the process.
Chairman Scheffrahn stated perhaps the newspaper could do a story too.
