August 12, 1999
Members present Doug Trumble, Rose Kahle, Wanda Ohare, Diana Lento-Riedy,
Bob James, Sylvia Kurtz, LuAnn Peters (absent) and Chief Tony Graff.
Co-Chairman Trumble called the meeting to order at 5:53pm.
No citizens present

Committee reports:
A. Census 2000 update-no report
B. Character of Counts Project
Doug Trumble started the discussion in regards to Character Counts
organization. He distributed materials he received from the organization. The
HRC reviewed the materials and D. Trumble highlighted the program. The
purpose for Character Counts begins with The Six Pillars of
Character...Trustworthiness, Responsibility, Fairness, Respect, Caring, and
Citizenship. This is a community based program where a coalition is formed to
fortify the lives of America's young people through ethical values. The discussion
ranged from the type of program, origin, references, etc. The HRC that
Character Counts is what our mission addresses the issues throughout the
community. The HRC will continue this discussion after further research by the
commission members. Chief Graff will order books for the members.
OLD BUSINESS: None
ADDITIONAL BUSINESS:
Sylvia Kurtz comments regarding traffic concerns around Prairie Lands Park. She
asked about Stop Signs or other traffic signs reference pedestrians/children playing
in the park. Chief Graff explained the process needed to warrant stop signs.
The next meeting will be September 2, 1999.
