Old Business:
1. Sylvia Kurtz stated that Melissa Watson contacted her after our last meeting re: the
committee Sylvia has been spearheading. April 126 Sylvia called her back and Melissa stated she
had to contact some other members on her committee and then she will call Rose Spears and
Sylvia. A meeting will be set up at this time. Doug Tremble asked if the building is ventilated
and is there heat. Sylvia will check on this. Sylvia agreed at this time to be the Chairperson of the
new Clothing Pantry Project committee.
2. Rose Spears discussed the Artwork Project. She stated Tony Graff checked with another
source in the community who stated he did not have any display cases at this time. Chief Graff
priced cabinets 5'6" with 12", 16" or 24" shelves and the price was $1,500. St. Joseph Cabinetry
may discount a case for us. A used case would be $400 or$500. A display board that would
lock was discussed and may cost $400 or$500. LuAnne Peters updated the Commission re: her
contact with The Yorkville High School Art Teacher, Carolyn Freese re: the project. Carolyn
stated that a decision would have to be made soon because it is the end of the school year. She
stated"If the artwork goes out of the school, we won't get any until the Fall". LuAnne also
received a phone call from Holly Baker from the Yorkville City offices on behalf of the Mayor.
She will be the contact person between the City and Carolyn Freese. Rose states she will bring it
up to the City Council tonight and Carolyn Freese will be contacted.
New Business:
1. Character Counts: Doug Trumble stated he received a phone call from Mrs. Stevens from
the Beacon-News. She spoke about Yorkville and Aurora being the only two in the area doing
Character Counts and she wants to do a feature article. She wants a list of names of people who
have demonstrated outstanding or very good character. One school person and one non-school
person should be included on the list of six or so names. Ultimately two people will be chosen.
The Commission brain stormed and came up with the following names:

News since we are all on this Commission and we're doing the nominations. All agreed Thanks
were given to those who nominated them.
