Human Resource Commission Minutes 2001 06-07-01CITY OF YORKVILLE HUMAN RESOURCE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES OF JUNE 7,2001 CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:05 P.M. by Co-Chairman LuAnne Peters. ESTABLISH A QUORUM: There was no quorum with only Sylvia Kurtz, Diana Lento-Riedy, and LuAnne Peters present. Ex-officio member Mayor Art Prochaska, and Alder woman Rose Spears also present. An infor- mational meeting held with no motions made, seconded, or approved since there was no quorum. CITIZENS COMMENTS: There were no citizen comments. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of May 3,2001 were read but could not be approved since there was no quorum. COMMITTEE REPORTS: 1. CITY LIAISON: No report 2. RECREATION DEPARTMENT LIAISON- Sylvia Kurtz Sylvia did not attend the recent meeting. LuAnne reported that Sue Swithin from the Park District approached LuAnne about having Sylvia on the Parks and Recreation Board since there is an opening. LuAnne had discussed this with Sylvia before tonight's meeting. Sylvia asked if she would be able to be on both that Board and the Human Resource Commission at the same time. Rose Spears will check the legality of this with City attorney Dan Kramer. 3. LIBRARY BOARD LIAISON- Wanda Ohare did not attend so there was no report. 4. MAYOR'S REPORT: a. Art Prochaska apologized to the Commission for not notifying HRC re: the presentation of Jeaness Medin's Woman of the Year certificate at last month's City Council meeting. He agreed that since the Commission nominated her for the award that all should have attended when the City Council recognized her for it. b. Art discussed the "Future For Kids -Making a Difference Awards" and asked HRC to consider nominating a local youth for this award. Nominations are due July 1'. Matt Huber, Nikki Nauman, and Katie Gengler were the three names the Mayor offered. He explained about their involvement in the City Skate Park, Crimestoppers Line, and the Intimidation Project which they all presented at a conference in Paris, France in the Spring of this year. Other names that were brought up were Ben Draper and the Cancer Project he and a friend are doing in Yorkville. The group discussed this and agreed that Matt Huber will be nominated for the award this year. LuAnne Peters to contact other HRC members for their input. c. Art also discussed the Governor Ryan awards but HRC decided to wait on this until a quorum is present. These awards are made quarterly. d. The Mayor discussed Yorkville receiving a Governor's Hometown Award for the Skate Park. This award recognizes volunteerism in the Youth Category and Yorkville may get a Governor's Cup which will be revealed at the awards ceremony. e. LuAnne asked about the tulips that HRC planted at the City Hall/Police station and who maintains them: HRC or the City. Art stated he thought the city crews were pretty busy with all the parks so it was decided that HRC will maintain them in the future. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Millennium Project was discussed. After the article is put in the Record, there may be some interest in pursuing the project in Yorkville. HRC will proceed with a specific course of action. 2. No report about the Voluntary Drug Testing Program. 3. Rose Spears spoke to Melissa Watson at Cross Lutheran Church about the Clothing Pantry. She told Rose that Cross is still very interested in the Project. Melissa stated they can't use the one area of the church because they have mice. The other room has not been inspected to date. A discussion ensued. Sylvia noted that a new resale shop has opened in Countryside. Rose suggested the Commission wait to see if there will be a response to the article Rose wrote in the Record to proceed. (All thanked Rose for the nice letter she wrote to the Record re: HRC). 4. C.L.A.S.Y. Program was discussed. LuAnne attended their Open House on May 21, 2001 and secured brochures for HRC. (Please note that we are listed as C.L.A.S.Y. Partners and Yorkville Human Resource Commission is printed on their two vans they have purchased). 5. The Relay for Life is set for June 23`d. Anyone can be on the City Of Yorkville team and should see Mayor Prochaska for the forms if interested. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Doug did not attend the meeting so the 2000 Annual Report was not presented. LuAnne will call him to remind him of NRC's presentation to the City Council on June 28th at 7:00 p.m. All HRC members are asked to be at City Hall by 6:45 p.m. so all have a chance to peruse their parts they will present. 2. LuAnne gave a short Red Ribbon Week update from the meeting she attended on May 21'. This project is slated for October 2001. HRC will be under the Family component and Gail Martin from the Recreation will head this section. ADDITIONAL BUSINESS: 1. The naming of the streets project was discussed. Diana discussed the need to find the original founding fathers of Yorkville to help with the project. Store names, police officers, and firefighters, whom have gotten awards, combat veterans/Purple Heart people(HRC will call Nick Moisa for info.), Dennis Hastert and Yumbo were all mentioned as possibilities. MOTION TO CLOSE: Sylvia motioned to close the meeting and Diana seconded the motion.
