The Human Resource Commission meets once a month at the Yorkville Police
Department. Generally, we meet at 5:45 PM in the Police Conference Room on the first
Thursday of the Month. Summer meetings are less frequent as we do not meet in the
month of July. Meetings are usually over by 7:00 PM. It should be noted that the
members of this committee have a good relationship and that meetings are enjoyable and
productive. This report will address the following areas: Activities which have been
supported by the HRC,Reports which have been shared with HRC, information which
has been reviewed, projects we have worked on, support the HRC has offered to
community organizations.
The HRC meetings are open to the public. It is noted that few community
members attend the committee. Although our meetings are advertised, we seldom have
visitors. We do make an attempt to schedule important speakers and presentations when
appropriate. During the last year we have had several presentations.
Chief Graff did an excellent job of informing us about the census at each
of our meetings. It is noted that our role was not as large as we had once
hoped, but the HRC did continually review the information.
We heard a report about the Relay for Life.
Alex Scarpeta spoke to us about pursuing a career in law enforcement.
This presentation was well done and very informational. Alex did an
excellent job of recognizing the many aspects of police work.
One of our goals this year was to investigate a"clock tower" for the City
of Yorkville. We heard a presentation from Gerald Fritsen of the"Verden
Company." Mr. Fritsen shared ideas about clocks, street clocks, bell
towers, bells, carillons, and chimes. We found this to be a very
informative meeting. However, we were somewhat surprised by the
significant cost of the clocks. The result of this meeting was to force the
HRC to review the feasibility of a"clock tower" park.
