Meeting of the Yorkville Public Lihrary Hoard
8-10-98 7:30 P.M.
The August meeting of the Yorkville Public Library Board was called
to order at 7:30 by President Mikal Pielech, Members present were Mikal
Pietech, Gail Gaebler, Russ Walter, Donna Figora, Sandy Lindblom. Iris
Steinhoff, Linda Bastyr, Library Director Michelle Pfister, and City Council
Liaison Art Prochaska. Carol LaChance and Sharon Rollins were absent

Amendments to Agenda: None
Minutes: Lindblom motioned to approve the minutes as amended. Bastyr
seconded the motion and it was approved by unanimous voice vote.
Correspondence: None
Public Comment; None
Report of Treasurer: Walter informed the board that the financial
statements from the city were not available at the time of the meeting. Rose
Gilbert received retroactive pay to update her pay to the minimum wage.
Walter and Pfister will he checking how far hack this needs to go in relation
to the October' 96 $4.75 minimum and the Sept. 97 $5.15 minimum. Walter
motioned to approve the bills including the payroll up to $ 15,686.10.
Gaebler seconded the motion and it was approved in a unanimous roll call
vote. Voting yes: Pielech, Gaebler, Walter, Figora, Lindblom, Steinhoff, and
Baster.
Report of the Librarian: Pfister reported the summer reading program
was going very well with many activities for the participants
The internet is working out very well.
The library is receiving a $500.00 grant from the Illinois Reading Council
to be used for children's books. Beth Grainbro helped in writing the grant.
Three proposals or bids were presented concerning the staining of the wood
in the library. After some discussion. Lindblom motioned to table having the
varnishing and staining done_ Gaebler seconded the motion and it was
approved by unanimous voice vote.

Sunday hours were scheduled to begin the first Sunday of September. With
the Riverfront Festival heing the first Sunday it was decided the Sunday
hours will begin the second Sunday of September, September lath_
City Council Liaison. Art had no report at this time,
Committee Reports: None to report.
Old Business: The five year plan was discussed. Building expansion was
talked about. By building an expansion it would allow adding a children's
wing making more space in the existing library for adult. patrons. Next
meeting we will be looking at existing plans and what direction an addition
would go. Heritage Trail System can be looking for grant money for
expansion when we are ready to move forward with the expansion. The
committee relations committee will be involved in fund raising but prior to
that we need to know what we will be asking for and how to raise these
funds.
The scanning check out system will he ready by next spring, One
computer will be used for check outs and two computers will be used to
house the card catalogue information_
The Library director will give the library's address for any board member
wishing to receive mail at the library. Board members are asked to give the
director their desires whether to have their mailings come to the library,
otherwise the home addresses will be given out.

A review of the disaster plan was completed with updates to be included
in each member's book_ Gaebler motioned to approve the disaster plan as
revised. Lindblom seconded the motion and it was approved by unanimous
voice vote.
Walter motioned to adjourn the meeting. Bastyr seconded and it was
approved by unanimous voice vote, Meeting adjourned at 9:13 P.M.
