Library Board Minutes 1999 02-08-99C Meeting of the Yorkville Public Library Po-rd2-8 -99 7 : 30 PM The February meetirig of the Yorkville Public T, ihrary ! oard was called to order by President Mikal 4'ielec_h at 7 : 30 PPM, Members present wore Mikal t' Lelech , Russ Walter , Carol r,aChance , SandyLindblom, Linda flastyr, and Tris Steinhoff . Also present were Library Director Michelle Pfister and City Council T- i,aison Art Prochaska . Members absent were Cail Caebler , Sharon Rollins , and T>onna F•'igora . Recognition of visitors : None Amendments tO Agenda : Adding one item concerning the oldcourthouse . Minutes : IJndblom motioned to approve the minutes as corrected . T,aChance seconded , and the motion was passed by unanimous voice vote . Correspondence : The Tllinois State Library r ont a letterregardingnon-resident library cards . We charge the average tax payor TOO For library usage . TE we want to raise the cost of a non-resident card we would have to have the Assessor ' s Office give an average assessed value of a home in the City of Yorkvl lle . 'Then that Figure would be multiplied by our tax rate . T1eri tape Trail confirmed concerns regarding the Y7t' problem and stated we should he alright . Public Comment : None Report of the Treasurer : Walter motioned to pay the billsincludingthepayrollwiththetotalbeingT13 , 669 . 17 . Lindblom seconded and the motion was passed by a roll call vote . voting yes were Pielech , Walter, tathance , T,i.rldhlom, Tlastyr , and Steinhoff . No negative votes . Report of the Librarian : Pfister and Walter went to the school technology plan meeting . Alan November talked about theinternetanditsfuture . Pfister went to an a-rate workshop at. HeritageTrail . Tax forms have been delivered . The library has ascannerforcomputeruse. Tt is not used by the library and could he soldbutArtsuiggestedtocontactDanabouthowtogoaboutsellingequipmenttothecity . Original cost was $500 . City Council Liaison : No comments Standing Committees : Personnel Committee- R.astyr stated a meeting will he soon to go over the Library T)irec•tor ' sEvaluation. Policy Committee- to meet in late spring . Finance - met Feb . l , 1999 to Se+; budget . Unfinished Pusiness : The library addition was discussed . Discussion cons_ernirig going to a distict library vs . the city library was hold . There are points to consider regarding use ofexistingbuilding . An intergovernmental agreement and a resolution would need to be filed . Board members would be elccLe_d not appointed . The board should visit other libraries who have had growth to see their building and ask questions to see how they proceeded with their plans . The first step we need to consider is inestablishingour. needs . Lindblom motioned that in the next 3 monthseveryhoardmembervisit2libraries . Flastyr secondnd and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote . New Pusiness : n concerned citizen stated storage or library storage use might; exist in the old court house . We agreed the need ror this doesn ' t exist at this time . The director ' s computer crashed and there is a need Eor a new computer before the new riscal, year . Michelle is to get a quote From the c'omputer Consul tarit services , inc . Walter motioned to purchase a computer from Computer Consultant Service hot to exceed A2 , 1 00 . T,aChance seconded the motion and it was approved by unanimous roll call vote . voting yes were Pielech , Walter , I.,aC}lance , Lindblom , Taastyr , and `_Leinhoft . No no votes . Walter lead the budget discussion. Finance committee wi l meet, to finalize the budget on Tuesday , March 2 at 7 : 00 PM. Linda F3astyr took over, the meeting at f : -10 PM . LaChanc e motioned to adjourn . Walter seconded and the motion was approved by unarlinious voice vote . Meeting adjourned at 9 : 15 PM.
