Library Board Minutes 2001 05-14-01Yorkville Public Library Board Meeting
May 14, 2001
7:30 P.M.
Iris Steinhoff called the February meeting to order at 7:34 P.M. Members present: Iris
Steinhoff, Sandy Lindblom, Russ Walter; Kelly Murray, Gail Gaebler, andJosephGruber. Members not present: Donna Figora, Carol LaChance, and Sharon Rollins.
Director Michelle Pfister was also in attendance.
Recognition of Visitors: none
Amendments to the Agenda: none
Minutes: Sandy Lindblom moved to approve the minutes as corrected. Iris Steinhoff
seconded the motion. All members present voted yes.
Correspondence: The district director at Dennis Hastert's office was asked if there were
funds available for the library expansion.
Public Comment: none
Report of Treasurer: After reviewing the budget, Russ Walter reported a discrepancy
of approximately $6,000. The mayor will need to be consulted. A check for $170
written to NIU will be cancelled. It was written to pay for a lost book, which has been
found. Russ Walter moved to approve the bill list and payroll totaling $16,616.44. Gail
Gaebler seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken and all members present voted
yes.
Report of Librarian: It was reported that circulation is up by 155.
Michelle Pfister explained that the Juvenile category includes books for readers between
the ages of 12 to 16. Approximately one half of the books added to the children's section
this month were purchased for this category.
Michelle Pfister attended the Illinois State Grant workshop.
There was a lower attendance than expected at the Rubber Stamping Demonstration. The
Butterflies are Free Day was successful and well attended. Names of patrons who have
checked out a gardening book have been collected for a drawing. The prize will be a
gardening book. On July 2, there will be a children's story time and picnic which will be
held in the town square. There will be an Adult Reading Program this summer in
addition to the children's reading program.
OSHA visited the Iibrary and recommended safer ladders, fiberglass ladders, and smaller
fire extinguishers.
The Illinois State Library Report is complete.
A copy of the Yorkville Public Library Inventory (done annually) will be sent to theCityofYorkvilleforinsurancepurposes.
Michelle Pfister will attend the Construction Workshop at Heritage Trail on May 18. Sheinvitedboardmemberstoattend.
City Council Liaison/Human Resource: none
Standing Committees: Sandy Lindblom and Michelle Pfister met to discuss theLibraryDirectorPerformanceAppraisal.
Michelle Pfister's raise was approved by the city.
Old Business: The agenda for the community meeting was finalized. It was suggested
that there be a guest book to sign and nametags at the meeting. It was also suggested that
the library's scrapbooks be displayed for patron viewing.
New Business: Board members were asked to bring their policy book to the next
meeting.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P. M.
