Library Board Minutes 2001 09-10-01Yorkville Public Library Board Meeting September 10, 2001 7:30 P.M. Joseph Gruber called the September meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. Members present: Joseph Gruber, Kelly Murray, Gail Gaebler, Jo Ann Gryder, Carol LaChance, and Marilyn Vorderer. Members not present: Sandy Lindblom and Russ Walter. Director Michelle Pfister and City Council Liaison Richard Sticka were also in attendance. Recognition of Visitors: none Amendments to the Agenda: none Minutes: Jo Ann Gryder moved to approve the minutes as corrected. Marilyn Vorderer seconded the motion. All members present voted yes. Correspondence: none Public Comment: none Report of Treasurer: Marilyn Vorderer moved to approve the bill list, including payroll, which amounted to $20605.40 pending Russ Walter's return. Carol LaChance seconded the motion. A roll call vote was taken. All members present voted yes. Report of Librarian: Michelle Pfister reported a circulation gain of 1265 over last year. 205 new resources have been added. A handout offering teachers a tour of the library and a teacher library card was distributed to the public and private schools. The Riverfront Festival booth failed to attract much interest. Michelle recommended that the library participate in the festival next year by sponsoring a kid's game or something similar. The City of Yorkville will now be doing the employee time sheets differently. A city meeting was held to discuss this matter. Joseph Gruber, Russ Walter and Michelle Pfister attended the City Council meeting in order to discuss the building addition plans. The staff brunch was held a Pati Bradstreet's home. There was a HTLS meeting regarding automation. A drawing was held for the adult summer reading club. 321 children participated in the summer reading club. 78 children attended the party at the end of the summer. A color page is being printed in the Beacon News. All children with a library card are welcome to participate in the coloring contest. The outdoor lights need to be checked. Money should be available from the city. A police officer will be checking car seats in the library parking lot. There are 5 people interested the Friends of the Library group. Rose Walters has volunteered to head the group. A Popular Science book has been purchased in memory of Donna Figora and in recognition of her contribution to the library board from 1996 until 2001. City Council Liaison/Human Resource: Richard Sticka commented positively about Joseph Gruber, Russ Walter and Michelle Pfister's attendance at the City Council meeting. A financial director for the City of Yorkville has not yet been hired. Leo Anderson is the architect for the present library. Eldon Madden has the original plans, which also show where an addition could be added. It was suggested that Eldon Madden be contacted so that the plans could be reviewed. Standing Committees: none Old Business: Michelle Pfister scheduled three interviews for the position of building consultant. One person cancelled and Richard Thompson did not show. Sharon Campbell offered her services at a fee of$4,000. If we chose not to involve her in staff and community input she said that she would drop her fee to $250,000. Michelle has had difficulty connecting with her references. New Business: The levy needs to be given to the city by the end of October. Russ Walter, Sandy Lindblom, Carol LaChance, and Marilyn Vorderer will meet one half hour before the next board meeting to discuss the levy. All board members are welcome to attend.
