Resolution 2010-28 STATE OF ILLINOIS ) ss. COUNTY OF KENDALL ) Resolution No. 2010 - RESOLUTION OF PARTICIPATION IN THE CLEAN AIR COUNTS INITIATIVE WHEREAS, the air quality of Northeastern Illinois affects the health and well -being of all the residents of the metropolitan region; and WHEREAS, pursuant to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards, our region is currently a non - attainment zone for ozone, and it appears likely that the region will be declared in non - attainment for fine particulates; and WHEREAS, local and regional partnerships that unite government, businesses, and residents, in a voluntary effort to reduce harmful emissions of nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds, can effectively improve regional air quality; and WHEREAS, Clean Air Counts (CAC) is a collaborative effort to achieve voluntary reductions in ozone - causing emissions in the six county Chicago metropolitan region, and WHEREAS, the City of Chicago has been participating in CAC for 5 years and, as a CAC community, is committed to implementing emission - reducing strategies, and will work with CAC and other municipalities to reduce regional air pollution by five tons per day; and WHEREAS, the City of Chicago's work with CAC and other municipalities will help prevent the need for more stringent environmental protection requirements related to air quality and ozone levels. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and City Council of the United City of Yorkville, Kendall County, Illinois, that the City of Yorkville commits to participate in the Clean Air Counts initiative and adopt the strategies required to improve air quality in our community and region.
