New Business: 1. PS 2026-12 Monthly Report Review for April and May 2026 For April, Chief Jensen reported the following: statistics for overtime, noted the traffic crash reconstructionist has completed the 2-year process for this certification, overweight truck enforcement, held mock prom crash simulation at high school, training hours, portable speed signs were used, citations issued, did directed patrols and answered many calls for service. The Chief also presented the May report as follows: hours of overtime, IVVC held classes at the police department to see demonstrations of some law enforcement systems used, participated in “cop on top”, 2 officers completed the FBI Trilogy leadership classes, the CSO received their Associate's Degree, training hours, traffic crashes, traffic concerns, speed trailers were used, monitored patrols, directed patrol stats, number of citations and warnings, Nybers reports showing an increase in some categories, investigation cases, criminal reports, mental health cases and arrests have both increased significantly. 2. PS 2026-13 Adjudication Reports for May and June 2026 The cases included building and zoning issues, expired registrations, animal complaints, junk/trash, retail theft, no construction permits, weeds, careless driving and illegal parking. Chief Jensen noted high school students were parking in the senior center parking lot and were warned, ticketed, but repeated this offense. Chief Jensen said the ordinance pertaining to this parking issue needs adjustment in order to be enforceable. He noted students also park in the Library parking lot. He also said the department and school are working on creating additional parking. Page 2 of 2 3. PS 2026-14 Body and Squad Car Camera - Discussion Chief Jensen said they are beginning the process of identifying agencies that have body and squad cameras since their current contract expires at the end of 2027. They are planning early to begin the budgeting for this purchase since it will be a significant expense. Their current contract is with WatchGuard/Motorola, however, the service is inadequate. The department met with WatchGuard recently to see a demo of their new system. The police have also met with another agency, Axon, however, they are expensive. Axon also has translation capabilities, superb video quality and report-writing ability. He noted the Sheriff's office uses this feature. He said if they switch vendors, all equipment must be from the same company. Axon provides new body cameras every 2.5 years. After all research is complete, a demonstration of the equipment will be given to the committee and he will compile a comprehensive report with costs, etc. Grants will be researched, but Chief Jensen noted some state requirements concerning storage and ownership vs. leasing. Chief noted that he is currently required by statute to have cameras, however, he said that may change. Old Business: None Additional Business: Chief Jensen noted he had sent an email to Alderman regarding a possible teen takeover that was potentially to have occurred the previous day. Department personnel spoke with area businesses to share information and the business owners were appreciative that they were made aware. He noted Naperville has had some serious issues with takeovers. There was no further business, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm. A lot has changed over the past two decades, both within our department and throughout our community, but one thing that hasn’t is your willing commitment to serving others. Even on the days that feel like “work,” you continue to show up, dig in, and lead by example (and we’ve got the photos to prove it). Ryan and Tim, how do you properly say thank you for 20 years of service? We’re not sure it can be fully captured in words, but we hope you know you are sincerely valued.
