PS 2026-14 Body and Squad Car Camera - Discussion Chief Jensen said they are beginning the process of identifying agencies that have body and squad cameras since their current contract expires at the end of 2027. They are planning early to begin the budgeting for this purchase since it will be a significant expense. Their current contract is with WatchGuard/Motorola, however, the service is inadequate. The department met with WatchGuard recently to see a demo of their new system. The police have also met with another agency, Axon, however, they are expensive. Axon also has translation capabilities, superb video quality and report-writing ability. He noted the Sheriff's office uses this feature. He said if they switch vendors, all equipment must be from the same company. Axon provides new body cameras every 2.5 years. After all research is complete, a demonstration of the equipment will be given to the committee and he will compile a comprehensive report with costs, etc. Grants will be researched, but Chief Jensen noted some state requirements concerning storage and ownership vs. leasing. Chief noted that he is currently required by statute to have cameras, however, he said that may change. Old Business: None Additional Business: Chief Jensen noted he had sent an email to Alderman regarding a possible teen takeover that was potentially to have occurred the previous day. Department personnel spoke with area businesses to share information and the business owners were appreciative that they were made aware. He noted Naperville has had some serious issues with takeovers. There was no further business, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm. Respectfully submitted by Marlys Young, Minute Taker
